I'm applying for a PhD program in public health this fall, that would start in 2021. But I enrolled this summer for a program to get a "Certificate in Patient Advocacy" through the university's "extension" program, which offers additional specialties and certificates for professionals and degree seekers.

I am so excited because having this course of study prior to my PhD is so perfect for my work and what I want to do. There are so many avenues of things I can do with this, including new lines of work, even before the PhD begins. I'm signed up for my first online class, which starts in a month, but I already have my books, and I have a feeling I will have read most of the material before the class even starts!

I'm very excited, if you can't tell. I'm also nervous because I've never done online courses. The last time I was in school was 15 years ago. I've done loads of professional development since then, but not an actual quarter-long course. I also was at odds a lot with my professors back in grad school, but I was also a different person then, and it was a totally different field of study.

So excited it feels like Christmas Eve! Too bad it's all online because it's not even like the first day of school where you pick an outfit and pack your lunch!

So class doesn't start until June 22, but I've already read the first 2 chapters in one book and half of the first chapter in the large textbook. Lol.

I'm just toying with the idea of going back for my PhD. This is so inspiring!! I'm happy that you are so excited.

I'm debating between two universities, so I guess I will apply to both. See what happens.
