I just wanted to let everyone know that I got a new journal yesterday. Well, I got two journals because I couldn't decide which one I liked best. But anyways, I think it will help me sort through my feelings. My past journals always end up in the trash because they are so negative that it depresses me to have them in my possession. But my new journal is going to be positive with goals and brighter outlooks to the negative thoughts that will envade my head.

I love buying new journals....I have the problem of buying so many of them, though, that the most they ever get written in is a couple pages. I like the idea of being more positive and with a brighter outlook, but make sure you're not neglecting the negative thoughts altogether. Writing about them and then looking back on them months later can help you figure out if they were appropriate to the situation and whether your negativity is improving.

Just some thoughts

I did better with my journaling when I started using workbook sort of books with them; like Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way.

So far the journaling is going really really well. I try only to skim the surface of negative thoughts (not writing 18 pages of why I'm upset that day, but a simple statement such as "Today the kids gave me trouble.") It's really not important "why the kids were giving me trouble." So anyway, I write the negative issue, and the replace it with something positive. Even though I still have those bad days, the feelings dont seem to last as long when I put a positive in there. The to-do lists are getting out of hand though. I've got to step back and stop going crazy with them because I end up setting myself up for failure because there is no way I can complete everything on these lists.

well it didn't work. I can't keep it positive, so I just haven't written in it. It sucks.

Breathe and try not to throw in the towel yet. Also try not to say can't because when you, say can't, you often become what you set your goals to . It's easy to get to "can't" don't you think?

Please come check -out this calming chat

Please don't give up, your way too valuable, imo!

K I'll try to find the time, sometime. Got two babies, so my schedule revolves around them. I haven't thrown in the towel completely yet. Haven't written in the journal in a while, but I'm hoping to get some inspiration soon.

I find it very difficult to journal. My counsellor has been asking me to keep one and I just find it difficult to get thoughts from head to paper. I had those same troubles in school when I had to write. And now my counsellor wants me to do this all the time. I can't express myself on paper. I wish she would choose another system. I have a microrecorder at home. Maybe I could talk out my thoughts on tape.

I've heard some therapists are asking their patients to do "video journals." If it is easier for you to talk than write, then try getting a digital camcorder and a memory card. Then record your entries. A memory card is alot easier to hide than a journal if you have a nosy husband like me

I have also begun ot journal my diet. I saw a dietician on Monday and she gave me teh national food guidelines and told me I have to write down everything I eat or drink over the next month. It is even requiring that I measure out my own individual portions of anything I cook. This is more challenging thatn I thought. However, realizing how much food I am allowed to eat surprised me. I was restricting myself from a lot of foods I am able to eat. Now I have to record my breakfast. Happy journalling.

diet journal...yeah I've tried that. Turned out to be a terrible way to lose weight. It just made me feel restricted, and I ended up eating more. Hopefully you aren't like me though. How is it working for you?

I like the idea of suggestions for free writing topics. I want to journal more, but find it hard to get going. Any other books to suggest?
