I'm going to keep an open mind to making a more meaningful connection with new people. Today, I have an event to go to. I'm going to try to make contact to pursue with one person. No expectations, just a contact to actually follow up with.

Since blowing off my family, I have no one to talk to now. Not that talking to them was even that fulfilling.

Maybe there are new people out there who will be enjoyable.

How did this work out for you Trisha? I had an appointment today and made an effort to make eye contact and smile. I got a few dirty looks but several smiles and even a wave from a guy crossing the street. I want to try to make a local friend too but some things need to change before I can attempt that.

People gave you dirty looks for being friendly? Where do you live, the wild, Wild West? Lol

It was ok. I didn't make a friend, but the appetizers and drinks were nice. We did talk to a couple. It was them who made the effort, which I appreciate. I admire that trait and hope to improve on it.

Lol. I live in California in the Bay Area region. The people who gave the mean looks were employees at the hospital and perhaps were having a bad day or worried about a patient and saw my smile as not fitting perhaps? It's also possible that everyone working at this hospital has crap lives cause they often look like you are putting them out just by breathing near them. The receptionist was very nice though....they usually are compared to the others.

The dinner sounds nice. I do appreciate people putting out effort first....making the first move if ya know what I mean. I pick the wrong people when I do this and I must admit I dont always attract the healthiest people for me so that part I will continue to struggle with I fear. I tend to be attracted to abusive types more often than not, and they are attracted to me. I need help figuring how how to identify these people better and have consistent boundaries in place.

I get intimidated by 'normal' types, and don't know what to say to them. I am attracted to and attract kooky, quirky types. They are interesting and fun, and I feel an instant kinship and feel comfortable. I always have good friendships with these kinds of people, no problems really.

My h is a very 'normal' type, as it turns out. Hmmmm....

I really haven't had any real problems in any of my relationships. (Except for husband, mother, and somewhat one ex who has his issues)

I have one life-long gf, who I have had to defriend several times, but then refriended. It is definitely HER. Now, I keep her at a safe distance and don't give her ammunition to use against me, and we're doing fine.

Some friends just moved on and we lost touch.

Even out of the ex bf's, I now understand why I pushed them away (BPD traits), but it never ended with them thinking badly of me. Most are still my fb friends!

I'm glad you made contact with another couple and had a nice time. I get intimidated by people who seem to have it altogether.
