I really struggle with negative thinking, which just makes me more depressed, and sends me in a negative spiral - rinse repeat.
I was reading a post by a woman on another site, about she had started to post positive affirmations about areas in her life that she wanted to change, in her daily journal and that within a month she'd found her attitudes had changed, and her affirmations were coming true. I figured what the heck, I'm going to try it. So started today, and for a month, in my daily journal - that I keep on another site, I'm going to post 3 positive affirmations for areas that I need to change in my life, and three things I'm grateful for. Hopefully it will help me get out of this mess I'm in. splitimage |

I relate to feeling terrible. It has been a rough day. Changing thinking and noting good has helped me at other times. Maybe it can help me today.

So I've been doing this for a few weeks now and the results are mixed. My affirmations are:
1. I deserve to be sober 2. I deserve a nice clean apartment to live in. 3. If I put the work in, I'll find a room mate. 4. I can get back to work within a year. My gratitude list changes daily. So results. Sober positive, I've drunk a couple of times, but it's a lot less. Cleaning not so much, but I'm blaming that on the heat as much as anything. It's just too hot to do anything, but I've given myself a deadline of Sept. 11, as I'm having friends over that day, and my apartment needs to be clean for them. Room mate - in process. I'm taking steps, like I just ordered a bed frame, so there will be a proper bed in the room I'm trying to rent out. Work - longer term. My counsellor in the addiction program I just finished, suggested adding an action statement to each one, of one small thing I can do each day to move forward on my goals. That strikes me as sensible, so I'm going to start doing that today. splitimage |
