Question Any shamanic practitioners and/or energy workers here?

I was wondering if there are any users here who employ shamanic practice (any tradition) into their self-care. If so, what types of things do you do to help deal with your mental illness?

I understand that various individuals and traditions approach mental illness in different way, and I am simply curious as to what you have done or do, as well as what has worked/works well (or badly) for you.

As for me, I have learned about journeying and soul retrieval from a few people of the Core Shamanism tradition, and I have an interest in exploring the Maker tradition. I have had soul retrievals done, as well as an extraction, which helped for a little while but not in the longer term. Ihave been wary of doing my own soul retrievals, but I am opoen to trying.

I also am aware that many on this forum would also discount any or all of these practices, and that is fine. But I hope that this thread does not become an argument pro or con for any of these practices. I am merely interested in the anecdotal, personal sharing of those who subscribe to such things and/or those who have honestly tried and things just didn't help them. That is okay too.

I've tried reiki before losing my mind. I think that lead to my losing my mind because she said your brain energy is scrambled and I can't unwind it. A year later I broke down mentally. Never gone back.

Shaman I've gone to twice so far. I really enjoyed it, though I don't know what she actually did for me. After you mentioned soul retrieval I do recall her doing that. I just know I feel better after a session, but its far and costly don't do it often.

So sorry to hear that reiki didn't help, but just like with conventional, western medical therapies/medications, things don't always work for everyone. Sometimes it takes working with different people. I've never tried reiki, myself, so I can't speak to the experience. But I do find it fascinating that the practitioner's "diagnosis" did seem to speak to what we would call mental illness.

I'd love to hear if you ever try alternative therapies like these or similar.

I'm actually going to give reiki another try with a different practitioner. As a birthday gift to myself. This post motivated me to look into it. It's actually really powerful.

Glad that this helped. I'd love to know how it ends up working for you. One of these days I will give it a try.
