Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can find the motivation that I need to do important things?

For example, right now I can’t get motivated to go to the bank which I have to do today because my phone bill is due today.

Take the task and break it down into easier steps. Such as:
Step One: Get Dressed.
Step Two: Get keys.
Step Three: Drive to Bank.
Step Four: Do Banking Activity.
Step Five: Pay phone bill.

Etc. It builds up confidence by being able to do little things and checking it off your list you become confident that you can handle the big thing (going to the bank and paying your bill). Hope that helps. HUGS Kit

Take it minute-by-minute.

For me, envisioning life in the long term can be paralyzing both physically and mentally. Maybe try rewarding yourself after you’ve completed your task? I totally understand the anxiety you’re feeling, but as hard as it can be try to see yourself through it.

Both of those are great ideas. I am going to start doing those things because when I think of the big picture, I get terrible anxiety and then nothing gets accomplished.

I’ve thought about checking to see if there is a phone app with a To Do list and try to stay on track.

SlumberKitty....I love your suggestion. I have been struggling with this and it has been the topic of my last two sessions. I will definitely be trying it this week.

I would think of the repercussions or hassle from not paying my phone bill. This would get my butt in gear.

Thanks for the good idea and it is difficult when a person is depressed to get going and get things done. On weekends I make lists and it helps to schedule grocery pick up since forces me to get out and arrive at the store at a set time.

Although I like the suggestion to break everything down into smaller steps, that doesn't always help. I think another way to motivate yourself, is to ask yourself why going to the bank gives you so much anxiety. Motivation and lack of motivation can have a lot of causes. Causes other than anxiety.
