Default Just can't deal with losing weight anymore.

I have been on a diet since I was 13 years old. Literally. There is nothing I haven't done. The amount of energy and discipline, I can tell you, if used for other things could have easily made me Chief Justice of the USA 10 times over by now.

But here I am, having back pain and 70 lbs overweight... again.

I started intermittent fasting and I really like it, but, same old same old.

- I don't seem to lose weight easily without extreme behavior. In three weeks I have lost 3 lbs, and mostly that was done with a 36 hour fast each week.
- I get stuck on the extreme behavior bandwagon because that is all that is working.
- mentally I have little strength / hope left because I have been here before.
- I tend to get discouraged easily because I have failed so many times before, I just don't have the optimism.
- I tend to get sick easily when I am dieting.
- so many times I start a new thing, it seems promising, but as I get into it more I find out a lot of what is said about it isn't true. This discourages me.
- My body has a tendency to adapt to eating less... so I am always super sensitive that I am adapting which means I can easily freak myself out if I don't lose weight for a long period.

I do think some things just are what they are. And trying to make them otherwise can be just a frustrating lost cause. I know it seems like everything one reads & hears talks about how important it is to be thin. And that's fine if one can be. But I think there's something to be said for peace of mind too. And since you've tried so many different things without success, perhaps it's just best to let things be as they are.

I do recall reading an article in our local newspaper some time ago that said, for older people, carrying a bit of extra weight can actually be beneficial. The writer was a physician. And he said his experience had been that his older patients who were carrying a bit of extra weight seemed to do better than those who were thin when they became ill. I don't know it it's true. But, perhaps thinness isn't necessarily the "end-all be-all" the so-called health advocates would have us believe? I don't know. But perhaps it's something to consider...

I carry a lot of extra weight. I feel like I have lost my life to this. In 2012 I lost 65 lbs on a liquid diet and I vowed I wouldn't gain it back... but I did. I believe this was due to thermogenic adaptation. This is just the ONE thing I find very difficult.

Hi, I struggled with the same. I recommend you get on intermittent fasting to start with. If you want help with this let me know. I have some resources I can send you and I can check in with you weekly. You can lose the weight and keep it off. Life is too beautiful to struggle!

P.S.: I registered here just to send this reply.

I am feeling discourged. First, often when I start dieting or doing any sort of plan I get sick. Sure enough, this time.I got sick. I am just recovering now but feel like it will be a week or so until I am really better. My back has been killing me and I need to lose like 20 asap to stop the pain, but definitely don't have any chance of doing that for a while.

Since I started "fasting" (not 16/8 though), well, I've sorta developed a little head cold or the beginnings of one. However, I did just come back from a trip where folks were getting sick and plus it's almost that time of the month and my immune system always gets skewed at that time. Anyway, following this thread. Maybe I'll just check in here instead of my "furious" one, since I'm getting over that emotion....for now. We will see, if the fasting doesn't work for weight loss, then I might be even more emotional and frustrated at my hubby's nagging for me to change habits when I had been. Sigh. Anyway, yeah, i concur with your frustrations!

I have the same problems. When I am eating normally I am often much healthier than when I diet. When I diet (1) often my period wants to begin (fortunately I am done with that) but this last time I felt like i was having a phantom period and (2) I get sick. in 2012 I started a liquid diet and 4 weeks later I got a terrible cold. And I NEVER get a cold.

But this last time I went to work after my week long absence and everyone was sick so... maybe it was just bad timing.

But this morning I am down 5 lbs. Tomorrow is usually a 36 hour fast but tomorrow I am not doing that.. I feel I am still recovering and that wouldn't be good. Also, my blood tests came back last week low in calcium. I redid them this Saturday so I want to get the ok before trying another long fast.
