Default Lack of motivation!

I'm generally not content with my life and I know I'm probably clinically depressed but I don't want to use meds. I'd rather veg-out and watch tv than do my homework or taxes or anything I need to do. About the only thing I do constructive is exercise but even that is daunting. What do you do to break through, change your life and get things done?

Hi. I hear you. I found this 5 minute motivational video on YouTube with different lines from movies, like Rocky. I donít know if it always works but I feel inspired to keep going. Iíll put the link below. Another thing that works sometimes is to do something even if I feel like crap. Just one thing. Afterwards Iím like, ďI did that feeling like crap.Ē Good job.
Bummer. I couldnít post the link but the title on YouTube is ďBest Motivation Video-Never Give Up! Itís 6.22 long on a guy name Russell OíNeillís channel.

It's a slow process. I've been where you are now. I was full of self loathing and lacked motivation. It's really hard in the beginning but being around people helps. Make every effort to connect with people.

Try exchanging one tv program for something constructive. Just one that's all until it becomes normalised, then rinse and repeat. Small steps is the best advice I can give without knowing your circumstances.

Hey @Maestro72 Have you figured out why you do not want medication?

Many times, procrastination and lack of motivation can be due to underlying fears and anxiety.

Thank you DarrenPH, I appreciate your input. It really is a slow process. This time of year I really don't want to be around people but what you're saying makes sense. I will try to do your exchange method.

Hi Sarah. My daughter was on antidepressants and I had/have mixed feelings about them. I feel like they can be helpful but not so sure about long-term use. I actually just talked to my therapist about meds. He told me some years ago that they might be a good idea for me but I have been resistant. The other complicating factor is that I feel like I have ADD and find it extremely difficult to read or focus my attention. That is making school extremely hard right now and adding to depression. I know a doctor won't treat both at the same time so I think I need to work on the ADD to get through school. That will at least help some with the depression, I hope.

Iím suffering from lack of motivation right now too. I seriously feel like I need to hire someone to come babysit me and hold me accountable.i have no problem Doing physical things around the house getting out and volunteering, etc. my problem is working which I do from Home. I canít seem to kick start my ďI have to do this nowĒ motor. And will distract myself with anything else I can find to do or go to sleep and nap. I have tried so many tricks and techniques, am on antidepressants but just canít find the drive and energy I need! Going to start having big financial problems soon if canít find a way to motivate myself. Even that isnít enough of a motivator to kick it into gear. Ugh

hi @Maestro72 Does your lack of motivation have to do with people pleasing, or a lack of focus? I try to break things down into smaller tasks. That helps me when I lack focus or feel overwhelmed with deadlines.
