Today: Work on grant. I didn't grow up slanging English with wonk, nerd, & geek so am likely to misuse them.

Whatever it is to hunker down and focus for while, that's what I'm doing today.

And also taking a walk to buy bread and search for moonpies. I don't recall ever eating one, but the Korean knockoff (Choco Pies) got me researching ... and nothing beats direct experience.

Yes, we are holing up on Barbara's Boards. I'm a creature of habit, and coming over here instead of writing on the boards involves breaking a habit. So I'm trying to get comfortable over here. Barbara's Boards (see the link in the post above) have been a circle of on-line friends for me for more than ten years.

My steps today. writing - edit 50003 words. (Nonowrimo challenge) Then throw away 9 things I don't need. and do household chores - lots.
My daughter has asked me to do some virtual home schooling with my granddaughter which will be cool and fun (I hope) I was a teacher for a couple of years, but a very bad one. But one-on-one I should be able to handle.

Had a listless Sunday and feel I truly rested. Long walk to visit one of the largest little free libraries in the area. Had nothing to return as all the books I just finished are from the other kind of libraries.

Today, back to edits on the grant, watch next section of well-being course, yada yada yada.

Tonight I might hop a bus for the first time since they put in free rides (because of you know what).

I edited about 6000 words, and worked on a garden project that I had previously considered hopeless, and did some physical therapy exercises. (I've been remiss about the exercises lately) My project to fix up a garden swing that my husband gave me for my birthday. Very long story to follow. A friend, I'll call him Gary, used to buy storage lockers and sell the contents at flea markets. He passed away, and left an old metal porch swing on our property. It was painted a cream color and had a bit of rust and very worn material and no cushions. And I wanted it. I thought i"d touch up the paint, but my husband said not to do it because the paint on it at the time was a powder coat, and if I tried to paint it, the paint would just peel off. Then he said he'd fix it up for me, and what color did I want. I assumed he meant cushions. Bright blue, I answered. (to be cont.)

Back from digging into what the heck evidence-based programs mean. Last thought about this in 2014. Back then, spent 5 years looking promoting, celebrating, etc. EBPs for sex ed.

Well, being statistically based (the higher status word used is science, but people are never as tightly cause-effect as atoms or chemicals), EBPs need a lot of data. The more "controls" and "rigor" and "statistical power," the better, naturally. But before that I have to understand it enough to convince my team how we best write our proposal. To show we know what we are proposing to do, some current goals we love may need trimming, some things some of us may not want—like all that data?—need to have more emphasis.

Work equals money. Happy to do it? The data is still out on that.

Part II of swing saga: I got the swing - painted bleeding eye glossy blue. The worn material was replaced with webbing, and there were no cushions. I got used to the color and loved it - for about two months. Then the webbing cracked from the sun and broke. Huh? months later I decided to fix it. Much deliberation over the method of doing it here. The original material was gone. The webbing was held in place by screws screwed into metal. Not something I was strong enough to duplicate. Much mulling and thinking goes here. Will she do it? (INSERT SPORTS ANNOUNCER VOICE HERE.) WILL SHE ACHIEVE THE IMPOSSIBLE? HAS SHE THE STRENGTH AND DETERMINATION???? Tune in to Psych Central for the next installment.

Delightful, on the edge of my swing.
My attention is on …
  • Barbara Sher's site.
  • Condo siding work.
  • Condo insurance work.
  • Grant writing work.
  • Deciding: play bridge online, or pass?
  • Sent in my tax forms yesterday.
  • Paid my county taxes as well.

Since it's April 30th I'll skip to the end. The swing works. It's held together by a rug with grommets and a wire threaded through the grommets to attach the rug to the swing. So far I haven't fallen through. The wire is digital cable wire (I think) My husband says it's an Erkel job. Not duct tape but almost as bad. If it lasts longer than a couple months (which it will) he'll have to eat his words.
