Hi All,
Just wondering what your experiences were of being at the ER for SH? I had to go there on Sunday to get stitched up. I go to the front desk and they are like, "What brought you in today?" And I said, "Cut on arm." And the lady was like, "I don't understand. Can I see?" So I showed her but it was embarrassing because it was out there in front of everyone. Then I get called back like an hour later. And the nurse asked me what brought me in today so I told her. She was like, "How did it happen?" So I told her I did it. She was like, "On purpose?!" I was like, "Yeah, but I'm not suicidal." She stepped away to go consult. And I was like crap. I'm going to have to do a psych consult. Luckily, I didn't. Then another nurse stitched me up. This nurse I liked. She was nice but distant. She didn't really say anything but she answered my questions. She just acted like it was "normal". Then the other nurse came back to give me a tetanus shot because it had been a while since I had one. And she was like, "You're at risk because you cut." No duh. Oh and they asked me, "Are you having thoughts of hurting yourself?" I said, "That's a stupid question." But I just kept repeating that I wasn't suicidal so I could just get stitched up and come home. The whole thing just took me about 2 hours and 15 minutes. Maybe 2 and a half hours. The two times I had to get stitched up they didn't give me a hard time. I was honest and told them I did it myself, and they didn't say anything. Just stitched me up and sent me on my way. They were on the smaller side but still needed stitches. I think if I'd gone in with massive gushing cuts I would have been looking at a psych consult.

I work at a front desk for an ER. We dont even require a reason although we ask for on the paperwork and of course if someone thinks they are having a heart attack etc we would make sure the nurses got there right away. People can stick with illness or personal if they prefer. I cant believe she asked to see it and Im sorry that you went through that. Unless she was a nurse doing triage she had no right to do that and I highly doubt that because it would be done in private.
Sounds like a pretty bad experience I hope you never have to deal with something like that again __________________ Bipolar 1 Borderline Personality Disorder Alcohol Use Disorder Meds: Depakote Welbutrin Abilify I didn't want any flowers, I only wanted to lie with my hands turned up and be utterly empty. Thanks @Tryingtobehappy5 I thought it was inappropriate, but wasn't really sure. It was just really embarrassing to be out front in front of all the people waiting at the ER. I can't believe "cut on arm" needed more of an explanation. Hugs Kit
