*Trigger warning Childhood sexual abuse and self harm*

Hey, so I have CPTSD from childhood sexual abuse. I do not normally self-harm but sometimes after sex with my husband I do feel the need to cut. He does not know about this, as I don’t do it often and it’s wrapped up in a lot of shame. I’ve also never spoken to my T about any self harm. I have been with her for 2.5 years and she knows so much, but this is something that I have so much guilt and shame over. I’m also afraid that I could be admitted to facility over this. I’m not suicidal, I have never wanted to hurt anyone else. Have y’all talked to Ts about SH? If so what was their reactions?

My T was very helpful when I brought up self-harm. She was not judgmental at all, and I felt a lot better about it after I told her. She also helped me strategize better coping skills for when I have those urges. I think it’s a great idea for you to bring it, whenever you feel you’re ready!

I have spoken to two therapists about self harm and although I don't feel it benefitted me personally, both were very understanding. A therapist will know the difference between wanting to end your life and self harming because of how you feel inside. Trust me they won't have an extreme reaction! I think it will help to get rid of your shame if you talk about it.
Best wishes x
