Yes, this is self harm. Do you have a therapist or a friend you trust that you can talk to about this? It is hard to suffer in silence and be alone. You are welcome to post here. Sometimes this board is slow and it takes some time to get responses but eventually you will get responses. I'm sorry you hurt yourself. I wouldn't say there is something wrong with you, I would say that you have a mal-adaptive coping mechanism. The good thing is you can learn other ways of coping that will help you not hurt yourself, if you want to. You aren't alone. HUGS If wanted, Kit

Hello Tammylou: I see this is your first post here on PC. Welcome to Psych Central. And thank you for bringing your concern here to PC.
As has already been said... absolutely... what you are doing to yourself is self-injury. Other terms that would apply would include self-harm as well as self-abuse. Given all of the harm you are doing to yourself, I would think the thing to do would be to find a psychologist or a mental health therapist who can help you to understand why you are doing this to yourself & (hopefully) how to stop. Here's a link to an article, from Psych Central's archives, where the writer talks about how she learned to stop self-harming: How I Stopped Self-Harming I hope you find PC to be of benefit. __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." Thanks for posting the article @Skeezyks. I found it helpful for myself as well. I hope the OP will find it helpful also. Kind of explains the journey I am on myself at the moment.
