I remember when doctors gave out suckers to children. And pharmacies gave out Cokes and such. That's before the days when it was decided they were bad for us. Sigh.

Sure do. Even did house calls if someone was very ill. (I remember because he came to see my brother several times, I was jealous...he laughed at me, said I was about the healthiest patient he had)----Dr. Burgess....
But then, my family---me, h. and kids had a family doctor...he recently retired. My kids are middle aged now. Remember when doctors (or actors dressed as) did cigarette commercials? "MORE DOCTORS SMOKE CAMEL THAN ANY OTHER CIGARETTE"? __________________ "...don't say Home / the bones of that word mend slowly...' marie harris |

I do. I remember when there was smoking everywhere. Hospitals, doctors offices, airplanes! People smoked inside their houses and turned everything yellow. Ya get trapped in the car with smoking parents. No seatbelts either.

I'm a guy so never wore stockings. But I remember the ones with seams and how important it was for the seam to be straight.

Having your chest rubbed with Vicks VapoRub when you had a chest cold. My mother used to warm a washcloth & pin it to the inside of my pajama top so it laid against the Vicks.

My mother pinned a cloth with Vick's on it around my neck, too.
Wasn't there a bottle of liquid medicine called Castoria or something like that? |

One other thing I recall was Paregoric. I recall my mother putting it on my teeth if I had a toothache. (I was only taken to the dentist, or the doctor either for that matter, if it was absolutely necessary.) For some reason I really liked the taste. Now I can perhaps understand why I liked it since it is a "camphorated tincture of opium". __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." And, being on two HS teams---no one came to see the girls play
