I'm finding that things are different with the holidays as I get older. My parents and my husband's parents have passed on, but our children will be home for Christmas. And I am inviting an elderly friend to our house, since she has no relatives left. Fewer presents to buy, since a lot of folks have died. What's happening with you as a senior during the holidays?

I've got grandchildren to buy for now, I find the world of toys totally confusing. So many of them need access to computers or apps. Thank goodness for Legos.

My wife & I gave up holidays many years ago. A holiday is just another day for us.

At the risk of sounding like Scrooge, I am always relieved when January 2 arrives and this time of year passes. Most of our extended family (husband and me) have died. Sometimes we spend time with friends, sometimes just the two of us.
But like Skeezyks, it really is just another day for us. |

I miss the holidays with all the family together. Too Many holes in the family now. We seem to just drift.

I spend a lot of holidays alone.
Which isn't such a bad thing I've come to find. It saves me from having to pretend that all is merry and bright when the truth is most of the time it is not. Remnants of all the trauma and abuse I grew up in, I reckon. I've learned to accept it for what it is ... To enjoy what I can, and to not beat myself up for what I cannot. |

I haven't celebrated holidays since Dad's suicide. He was the glue that held us together for them. I do miss him more between Oct. and Jan. 2 Still hard to believe he's gone and that he took so much of my life with him. Looking forward to being with him again one day.
