Oh, thank you, seniorj! I know that I have a lot to be grateful for, but, sometimes it is hard to see the forest for the trees that block the view of good things. I am just dealing with a lot at the moment, and it is hard to deal with alone. There just isn’t anyone who has led a life similar to mine. They have spouses still, or children close by, or just family. I don’t. I did have one person who told me, “You are just snakebit”. Everything has come crashing down on me at once, and it is hard to throw off the multitude of weight and gain some footing. It helps to write it down, but I’m am the only one dealing with the onslaught, and it would be nice to have someone take care of me for a bit. It isn’t going to happen, but it would be nice.

Try meetup groups and they can be found online. There are groups for various interests such as knitting, movies, etc, or cards, reading and book of the month group.

Hi, Martha. I also am alone, but never lonely. My one daughter lives overseas in Kazakhstan. I tend to isolate myself, not going out unless absolutely necessary. But as I said, I'm never lonely. Probably because I spent 20+ years in an unhappy marriage, only leaving after my daughter left for college. I had longed the whole time to be free, and finally did so. That said, yes, I could be lonely, but I spend my time working on my art. Do you have hobbies? Do you have neighbors who are friendly? After my divorce, at age 47, I did try dating online. I don't recommend that, as it led to a lot of disasters for me, and loss of income. Sorry, too much information here, but there are lots of predators out there for the lonely vulnerable. I'm grateful to still have my health at age 68, can support myself financially, and can maintain a moderately healthy outlook. (Message me if you wish.)

Hi Martha,
I have no friends or family. I am 62 single and have two cats.

I feel unloved and unfulfilled most days, but I also know I am blessed and thankful for what I do have.

I used to get out some but lately I just can't so in a way I create my own loneliness. Vicious cycle.

You can PM me if you like.

I really feel for you. I'm lucky enough to live with my son and his wife, but I feel like a burden. These are such stressful times to be coping with mental issues. I just discovered I'm bipolar myself. Some days are overwhelming. This site helps me deal with it. I hope you are okay.

Hi Sunny! Welcome to PC I'm in NorCal, choking on smoke. How is it where you are?

I noticed that you replied to this thread, I was going to reply to the OP, but realized it's an old thread.

Hello, all you new folks to Psych Central and/or to this forum.

I would hope if I ever live with one of my children--I don't think they would even ask me--that I could pitch in somehow. Fold clothes, cook, watch the grandkids, or something. I hope they would tell me how they feel and if they see me as a burden, I could somehow make things better. But I'd want to have my own life, too-get out some, if I could or even get out of their sight for a bit.

I still have my hubby. I need to learn to be more independent in case he dies first. But I suffer from lots of pain as well as bipolar. He is bipolar, too. We take our meds and see our health specialists and learn to cope when one of us is sleeping a lot or whatever.

I do think hobbies are important. I'm not crafty, but I read and write, color pictures, and watch a lot of TV--as well as coming here and getting involved.

I belong to a writers' group associated with my church, too. That's something new ,and I am blessed for that!

how long have you been divorced. I am going down that road now. Was married for 36 years and wife decided she wanted out; She will be 72 in December and I am 75..
We have been separated 2 months. I don"t feel like doing anything and I have panic attacks, especially if I wake up during the night and reach for her and she's not there.

Hi, Manny14, and welcome to Psych Central! I'm sorry your wife has taken off. I can understand your reaching for her and how hard it must be that she's not there.

Any chance that the two of you can reconcile?

You'll have a chance to make some new friends here--and I'm sure folks who can understand what you are going through. You might check out the Relationships forum and even post there to find them.

I'm glad you've found our senior forum and have joined in. We are also here to "listen." And to have some enjoyable times.
