I have begun to compensate by taking frontage roads, and scheduling appointments after interstate traffic slows down. Thank goodness for GPS, when going somewhere unfamiliar!
Curious, as how you all noticed
Driving anxiety? Slowed reflexes?

I'm more concerned about drunks and those under influence of drugs, I see many reports of crashes with DUI's but very few with seniors. They get their license revoked but don't care and keep driving drunk until they have serious accidents or kill someone

I stopped driving quite a few years ago now. Back when I was still a real person, & had a job, I used to enjoy driving & drove all over the state as a part of my job. But once I stopped working I seldom had anyplace I needed to go. So after a while I sold the pick-up I drove. And, since then, my wife does all of the driving. She needs to anyway because if she's not driving she tends to get car sick.

I think it depends on which state you live in. NJ is densely populated with 8 million people and we have an above average senior citizen population. This article was just from a quick google search but about once a month we have accidents where very old drivers drive through store fronts or back into buildings because they hit the gas instead of the brakes.
Elderly drivers crash into homes and store signs in same NJ town, same week

My mom stopped driving when the car broke down. I sleep better knowing she is not on the road.

My husband does most all our driving, since I am doped up with drugs. I try to find intersections with traffic lights to pull out in the road and only drive locally.

I've travelled California's freeways for 41 years. I think I'm as good as I've ever been but find myself seeking surface streets to get me somewhere even if it takes more time.

These days I live where there’s plenty of public transit, fortunately: I find my eyesight is sometimes not really good enough for night driving, and if it gets worse I worry about having to move somewhere cheaper where I wont be able to drive at all.

Research does show that our reaction time slows as we get older. Plus, we might be dealing with sight issues such as cataracts. I also find night driving to be hard.

Still too many elders who are not admitting they are dangerous on the interstates while having major issues with health.

Personally, I don't drive at night either. My eyes are sensitive to bright sunlight.

I love to drive. That said, I avoid driving at night anymore; I just can't see nearly as well as I used to. And I don't drive nearly as much as I did in the past.
