Yes I’ve read books set in California and most of them remark on how the climate has changed. There used to be lots of comments on smog but that doesn’t seem to pop up now. It’s just comments on how little it rains and the lack of autumn. That intrigues me because I never thought of California having an autumn before. I guess before it stopped being a thing people just took it for granted. I had an uncle who moved to San Diego in the 50’s. He and his wife had a little house a couple blocks away from the ocean. When they died a few years ago their land was worth millions. He missed snow at Christmas but otherwise loved California weather. He sent me good books like Silent Spring and other enlightening reading.

Interestingly, smog used to be a big problem in southern California, particularly Los Angeles. We now have such strict emissions laws that smog isn't a huge deal.
Autumn...well, southern Calif is very different from northern Calif. It's such a large state. For example, Los Angeles is 500 miles from San Francisco - and that's no where near the entire length of the state. I live in northern Calif and we used to have lovely autumns. Our trees still turn, but somehow...differently than they used to. Calif is a magnificent state...at least, it was... But (hopefully) nothing can take away the enchantment of the ocean. Silent Spring truly is an enlightening book. __________________ |

I'm hoping concern will get back to the environment in January, for reasons you all know, but I can't talk about here.
We just are having out cold weather--in mid November. That shows me the climate is warming. I like seeing a bit of snow each winter. We don't get nearly as much in this part of North Carolina as in other parts. |

OH, my. I hope that's all they've done. It's scary.
Let us know how it goes. It's good you've frozen your account for right now. |

It really amazes me, the chutzpah of scammers and ID thefts.

I had a very upsetting scammer experience on Sunday. I'm always telling people not to fall for scams. But there I was...almost falling for one. Fortunately, something didn't feel right, so I told the person that he's a scammer and hung up on him. But that was after 20 minutes of believing that he was from Microsoft and trying to help me with my computer.
I was totally surprised at how intrusive the entire thing felt. __________________ |

Yeah they are good that’s why they’re successful.

Yep, they are very sneaky. I once had someone call to tell me I'd won the Clearinghouse sweepstakes. When I told them I didn't believe them and that they were scammers, he offered to let me talk to someone higher up. I said, "No" and hung up.
First of all, I hadn't even entered the sweepstakes lately, but had in the past. And I knew these folks just came to surprise people , not calling in advance. I hate to be prejudiced, but I'm always suspicious of people with foreign accents. |

I’m suspicious of everybody that offers anything too good to be true. Yet somehow I have a daughter who believes the best about everybody. She’s no fool and doesn’t fall for scams but she sincerely believes the best of people. I’m too suspicious. I feel bad about that.

Why do you guys ever even answer the phone? I never answer the phone anymore unless I know exactly who it is.
I also won't sign up for anything if it wants my phone number for security. Yeh right. |

Yeah, I don’t answer phones either. I have a cell phone and only 6 people have my number, they all know to only text me. I don’t answer reg phone calls. At first my phone rang regularly. I just turn the sound off. Now after almost 2 years they’ve gotten the message and don’t call my number. But some try to text. I block those.

That's the thing...I would never answer the phone to a strange number. It wasn't about answering the phone. I had something go terribly wrong with my computer and a very real-looking Microsoft logo appeared on my computer telling me to do this and that with my computer to "fix" it. It all seemed extremely legit - until "Microsoft" told me I needed to call them because I needed to purchase softwear if I wanted my computer to run again. As soon as I called I knew it was a scam. I was really upset, furious, and felt so stupid. Never dreamed that a scammer could attack my computer like that. It's really not the fault of the innocent person who answers the phone, it's the criminal who is in the wrong. __________________ |

Oh, I’m hoping for no snow where I am. It’s snowed 5-6 times so far but the most it lasted was two days. There’s still leaves on the trees but most are pretty bare. We had the earliest ever snow back in October. But then in November we had a string of above 70’s temperatures. That was a very very nice week. Tomorrow is another above ave day but mostly it’s average.
The surge is so bad here our governor is closing restaurants, bars and fitness centers. The hospitals are overwhelmed icus full. So after my eye appointment I stopped at the library and got more books in case they close again. They may shut the browsing and computer access but I think they may keep the drive up pick up open. I was planing on driving an hour to the biggest town near here to do Christmas shopping tomorrow, now I’m not sure. __________________ Nammu …Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. I did my Christmas shopping all online this year.
We might get one snow a winter where I live. We have a mechanism on my phone that identifies most scam calls. But I got one from a local number today. Well, she wanted me to take advantage of some way to lower my credit card bills. I said no. I often say I don't sign up for anything over the phone, but they can send me some info about it. The scammers never send me anything. |

I did drive over to the nearest “big” city, to target. There was hardly anyone there and they had everything that I had on my list, including the coconut macaroons I wanted. I didn’t browse tho, just got what I was there for and left. Was nice that many things were on sale. Was a nice drive, good roads, construction all finished and very few cars on the road. I know it was the middle of a week day but still I expected more people. I wonder if most are doing online only this year?
