I do not watch TV, but I have recently read someplace that the word "self-cultivation" was coined for female masturbation on Oprah. Great coinage! Empowering and liberating - way to go! But I have not seen such a term in reference to male masturbation - males are described as sleazy and what not. How unfair!

Hamster, (only my opinion, but...)
There are as many names for male masturbation, as there are names in which men choose to Christian their penis'. I doubt even men find this unfair. And I also have never heard of a man being called anything, especially sleazy for masturbating. Hell, they could care less. Have you heard the term, "circle jerk?" I rest my caae, -Fleeing Bellocq |

lol Fleeing brings up a pretty good point. As often as we joke about it, and as we consider it, giving it anything beyond a joking or lightly self derogatory name for it would be a source for more jokes for us.
I mean, being honest...we call it "choking the (your small animal here)" for Pete's sake. lol I don't think we're ready for "self-cultivation." __________________ The world suffers alot. Not because of the violence of bad people, but because of the silence of good people.- Napoleon Bonaparte |

"Rubbing one out" would never justfully describe the beauty of "magical massaging of the pink flower petals", lol.

BlueInanna,
You are so funny, I laughed out loud! I think we've found our new thread. Will someone else start it, please. I just got off time-out! Of course if you really start this thread, its back to the corner, for me! -Fleeing Bellocq |

Hamster,
One more thing, I don't want equal rights between the sexes. We are so much more powerful than men! Many, stare too long at the painting, failing to notice the brushstrokes. Again, my opinion, -Fleeing Bellocq |

I've heard a few equivalent terms for the female act but I guess men give it more creativity? lol
Besides, I've never watched Oprah, but maybe they just considered it a better term to be using on television? |

I fear we as the male species may be forever doomed to an inferior vocabulary of masturbatory terms. And heck...let's not even get started talking about options and variety. lol Harley likes this topic. __________________ The world suffers alot. I think masturbation, by a male, female, transgender, or ambiguous, is a beautiful thing. I don't believe in stereotypical gender roles and anything having to do with one gender being better than another. I don't know what else to say, except that people are stupid. Masturbation is very therapeutic.

Isn't masturbating just masturbating?
I always call it jacking off even when referring to myself. |

I'm in my 50's, went to college, was in the military (reserves for 8 years). I very rarely hear men talk of masturbating in a way that isn't an attempt to shame someone. And there is always the insinuation that other people do it, but not the one attempting to shame.
Is it the shamers who have the issue? __________________ My business is to teach my aspirations to conform themselves to fact, not to try and make facts harmonise with my aspirations. T.H. Huxley |

Some of the few exceptions occurred at the private Christian college I attended in the mid 1980's.
It just so happened that someone was "enjoying himself" in the shower at about 2 in the morning (we had a communal bathroom w/ showers), and was interrupted. Word got around. I never even heard the guy's name. But, I remember a guy that most of us liked commenting on it by saying, "I'm glad it didn't happen to me." Another time, someone talked about how a group of guys saw something on the wall in the hallway, and the comment was made, "Looks like someone wiped out there." The guy telling the story wondered how the speaker knew what it looked like. Not unkindly. He just was making the point that everyone masturbates. __________________ My business is to teach my aspirations to conform themselves to fact, not to try and make facts harmonise with my aspirations.
