Default Blind Dates: Yes or No?

OkCupid has a new feature where you can set yourself as available to go on a blind date. You can choose what dates you are available, but you can also choose to browse blind dates and where they're going, with the pictures skewed so you can't see who you're going to meet.

I'm thinking of giving it a try, but what happens if it turns out he's ugly or awkward or lives too far away? And of course, what if he's a creeper?

I'm not sure if I can go on a blind date without knowing it could be good or bad. However, I dated someone from OKC a couple weeks and it fizzled quickly, so I feel at a loss. What to do?

I HAVE never nor will ever have enough confidence to be set up!! I was too afraid he would be mad at his friends for setting him up with someone "that has a great personality"!!

I'm not saying you shouldn't!! Go for it!! What do you have to loose? But be EXTREMEMLY cautious of meeting someone online. It is almost popular to use fake pics and fake names to meet people online. I'm not trying to scare you! I just don't want to see you on the next episode of 'Catfish'!

Best wishes!!

Have a nice day!
Love,

I have not been on the site since the beginning of the New Year... Did not know about it.

If dates are in safe public places, then why not? It is just basically about trusting chance. Sure, when you examine their profiles and chat with them, you get much more information, but hell perhaps chance is the answer and screw getting information!

Sounds like a position where you could be putting your self in a situation to be harmed. You are rather young correct? A double date maybe a safe option if your heart is set on this.

Other wize sounds fun. You might meet someone weird, you might meet someone out of town, you might meat THE MAN OF YOUR DREAMS.

I'm...wary, I think would be a good word. Granted, yeah, you get to meet people who want the same as you, but I'm concerned about the safety parts. Just be very sure it's in public...meeting a Mr. I. C. Yu in the middle of the nowhere is an immediate deal breaker.

Just take to heart that blind dates are blind...you will, almost without question, run into guys who you'd be perfectly fine never seeing again a good deal before meeting someone you'd like to date. Just don't lose heart. And above all, be safe!

lol And do NOT end up on Catfish, please? Watching that show is like an entire recap of my time with my ex. I don't wish that on anyone.

Well, if someone is very unattractive, then it might be better if his or her date is blind.

Seriously, it would be okay to go out with someone if he or she is known and recommended, but I agree that just going out with someone on line or not known to anyone you know is too risky. I keep hearing, too, about that football player who was duped.

I'm not even sure about those dating service systems where people are supposedly matched up. A friend of mind did not have good experiences with them. She said the guys she met were not honest about themselves there either.

I think that outside of that old Indian tradition of collecting references from people who have known the potential groom's ancestors for generations, every modern recommendation system is not foolproof.

love will find you whenyou are least expecting it, dating is fun but you have to be careful, do not put yourself in a position where you are alone, tell someone where you are going and when you expect to be home. arrange to check in with someone when you get home. never go back to the other persons house for 'coffee' until you really trust them, keep your mobile phone switched on silent and out of sight all evening, it can be used to trace your movements if things go wrong or call for help.
keep safe x
