My libido skyrockets when I'm depressed. It seems like the worse I feel the more I want sex…even my orgasms get stronger.

Then when I start feeling better I feel more functional (which is great) but the sex thing just goes back down to normal (which kind of sucks).

I guess it kind of makes sense in a way…the crappier I feel the more stress there is to release…but I was wondering if anyone else gets this way?

I do not take any psych meds, so I'm not having some kind of paradoxical side effect.

For some, it can be a way to escape? For some it can be chemically charged by whatever is going on during a depression? Not entirely familiar with increased drives during depression, hopefully others here, have more insight?

In my experience it depends on the depressive cycle. Some episodes my libido tanks and others my libido increases. It probably has to do with how the hormones in my brain tank out in particular with each episode. One time it's probably dopamine, next time it's seratonin or norepinephrine; there seems to be variability there.
