I am a lesbian with a female psychiatrist that I have always kinda crushed on. I am in the midst of a wicked Mixed Manic episode requiring hospitalization. In addition to spending $ we don’t have I was in a constant state of arousal thinking about my PDoc and being an ID10T in her presence. I finally confessed this to my T and PDoc. Neither of them “fired me”. However, I did get suicidal and go in patient for a bit. My PDoc is moving away. I will have a new PDoc that I like, but I cannot deal with my PDoc leaving and I still fantasize about and want her. Have not said anything more and will not act on this because it would be bad for both of us. But how do I stop obsessing over her and get over being heartbroken she is moving away?

I noticed no one answered you. Therapy can be an emotional experience--with time, you might not obsess as much. Though you feel heartbroken , maybe her leaving is a blessing because it will never be!!! Have you ever thought about going to a male therapist instead?

I'm no doctor, but I think this may be "transference". I would think your pdoc would have brought this up with you when you confessed to her. I find that the more I understand my symptoms, the less power they seem to have over me.
BTW, I get this way too though so I understand how you feel. If you can make yourself just think about this a little less often, slowly over time it can pretty much go away. It's tough, but you just kind of have to shut it down in your head a few times at first until your brain understands what you're doing. Then it gets more automatic. This technique helps me anyway. __________________ For a little peace from God you plead, and beg BP 2, GAD, PTSD, etc., and a BMF to boot Confirmed, admitted alcoholic/addict now 100% clean & sober forever Current meds : Lamictal 100 mg, more coming soon I'm sure, other meds for non-MI issues like Pramipexole for RLS but it's probably doing more for my mood I don't know about |
