I am a female in my early 30s, educated and successful. I have a challenging career and a growing circle of friends. My life is better than ever before, and I usually present as confident and happy, if a little eccentric. What no one knows is that after years of chasing a socially acceptable relationship (read: marriage to a man), I have accepted my sexuality for what it is -- I am attracted overwhelmingly to animated characters. I would go so far as to call it an orientation.

Not Japanese anime, which has never interested me. Always Western animation. And never your traditional princes and heroes, either. I seem to have a very specific attraction to cynics with a sensitive side. I've tried to find partners with those traits in the 3D world... but I'm not good at it. I do experience some sexual attraction to real people, and have had relationships that lasted years. But the romantic feelings and sexual attraction are nowhere near as strong. Real people all look kind of the same to me.

It feels like a big relief to accept and behind closed doors, I'm free to do me (in all senses of the phrase). But it has its downsides. It means I can't go out on date nights and can't really talk significant others with my friends. I worry that people would see me differently: feel sorry for me, see me as too selfish or emotionally lazy for a "real" relationship, or too deluded to know the difference. I wish the characters were real, but I'm well aware that they aren't. I do find it hard to get to know people, especially to build a dating/romantic relationship. I like being able to have all the information about a character presented to me. Maybe that does mean I'm emotionally lazy?

Since I won't get to talk about this to anyone I know in real life in the foreseeable future, let's discuss.

TL;DR: I experience deep sexual and romantic attractions to animated characters. Accepting this is fulfilling for me, but I have to keep my love life/sex life a secret from everyone I know.

This is actually not too uncommon - it's known as "schediaphilia" or "toonophilia". There are varying views and opinions on it, although not much actual research has been done on the subject. I've experienced it to some degree myself, but to be honest I figured it was normal.

Considering that you have put effort into making and maintaining relationships with other real people, I don't think that this attraction makes you emotionally lazy. It seems that this is just another aspect of your identity that you must learn to accept, and it's good that you are!

It’s refreshing to hear people say they understand it and have experienced it themselves! The reason I think it goes beyond the attraction most people experience, is that it includes the romantic/emotional intimacy side as well. After rewatching “Married to the Eiffel Tower,” a documentary about objectum sexuality, I’m convinced that the way I experience schediaphelia is similar in the way OS manifests, but is less abstract to the average person hearing about it.

I’m not interested in 3D dating/relationships anymore. I just have a “been there, done that” feeling about it. I recently ordered a custom character plushie with adult modifications. Can’t wait!

Psssstttt I have a secret!!!!

I give to you...MY BOYSSSS!!!!!

Attracted to Cartoons

Skwisgaar, Toki, Nathan, Pickles and Murdeface, members of virtual band Dethklok of the TV show Metalocalypse. Once you get into it, buy their CDs...they freaking produced ALBUMS!!!!

I am in love with all of them. So half of this is real and half of it is all in my head, but you'll understand everything. The brunette Toki is my all-time favorite, I've always loved him because he is so sweet and happy-go-lucky in the show, but he's so innocent that I only hooked up with him on rare occasions. He is loyally devoted to Skwisgaar, the blonde, who in my head has recently came out as gay and is exclusive only with Toki. He won't have sex with me unless its an orgy. Nathan is my second favorite, he's the leader of the band with the black hair and a good cuddler. Pickles is the redhead and gives the best oral. Murderface is closeted gay (there are theories about this on the internet), and in my head has a crush on Pickles but denies it by trying to get with me, and because he's a bit of a pig, he drilled a hole in the shower so he can watch me while I'm showering...but after I figured it out I squirted him in the face with the water from the showerhead.

We go on soooooo many adventures, but that's the creative side of me. They are not only people I have fantasies about, but they are my friends, too. It gets a little complicated with five guys and a girl, and they usually fight over me, but that's the fun part.

Oh, and I know he is way too old for me, but take a look at this hottie. Yeah, really.

Attracted to Cartoons

Oh, and here is when my love of cartoons began...Ash and Misty and Danny Phantom!

I love it! That's exactly what I'm talking about. Your adventures sound thrilling, and they all have specialized skills... Side note, I watched the show a couple of times years back and I laughed uncontrollably when one of them (Skwisgaar, I think) was pouting and whined: "I want to be in a bad mood!" Now I say it often. Tell me to cheer up, will you?

Speaking of not needing to cheer up, this is my man.

Attracted to Cartoons

Oh yes. I will come all kinds of hither.

I used to write down my history with characters. Not fanfiction; although I did/do write fanfiction, I never appear in it. This would be more like a journal: who I am, how we met, our intimate times, etc. I don't have my Bikini Bottom journal anymore (aw, barnacles!), but Squidward and I have been on and off for many years, and the story has grown and developed.

I'm a colleague of Sandy's, a rabbit, researching anthropology. And what better place to soak up some undersea culture than chez Tentacles? Sure, being from opposite sides of the surface makes things tricky, but we manage. Considering this started when I was 12, I'm kind of amused that we were from different worlds, and I wasn't just a fellow sea critter. There's probably something significant in there somewhere.

As for Squiddy, under the layers of apathy and sarcasm he uses to protect himself, is the passion he has for his music and art. All he needs is someone to share that passion. He's inexperienced due to keeping others at a distance. But being a dancer who loves to be pampered, he's a fast learner! It usually ends up being all about him (I mean, when is it not?) and I'm the pursuer, but it works for us.

What is great is that I live near San Francisco, so at the time when in my head Skwisgaar and Toki first became a couple, I imagined--as I was traveling in SF-- that the boys decided to take them to SF because "all the gay people hang here and stuff" and they took them to the Castro and all the gay bars, and I can't continue because it's inappropriate to post here but it was so hilarious to walk around the city with them goofing off and trying to be supportive, but Skwisgaar and Toki were a new thing and they weren't ready for that kind of acceptance.

But yes, we have loads of fun on our adventures. They come with me wherever I go. I literally can't go into the car on a fun outing without turning around and looking at them and saying, "Alright, boys, we're hitting the trail!" and then they all cheer and manage to all cram in my car. Some days, it's only some of them, but it's so funny when they're all in my car sitting on each other's laps.

I can see the appeal for Squidward's personality, but I've never really had feelings for a character that wasn't a person. But you do what you do and don't be ashamed...there are plenty of people who have the same feelings as we do! <3

So okay, question, and you don't have to say if you don't want to...in your mind, does Squidward have a penis or is it like hentai where he uses his tentacles to please you? Or both? Tee hee! Oh, and if this is borderline not appropriate to post, just PM me. I'd love to talk cartoons with you!

Short answer to your question:

Attracted to Cartoons

In other words, both! Let’s continue in PM. I’m so excited to talk to someone who gets it!

Haha oh my gosh! This happened so much when I was younger, and still does. Now, I am in a relationship with my girlfriend, and we love each other very much.

Buuut......I've got my niche lover too that isn't exactly conventional, hahaa.... (You can message me if you want, I'm too embarrassed to talk about it here!) Among inter-dimensional things but that's a little different and on a less 'fictional' scale so to speak that's....very hard to explain.

But I certainly don't think you're weird!

Hi Sepiida! I read through your post and I identified with it a lot! (I also have a post talking about how I feel and you're more than welcome to check it out!) I'm in love with a fictional character too (he's just 3D animated, but isn't it almost all the same haha?), and just like you I'm romantically and sexually attracted to him too. I imagine doing little cute things with him like dates, and also some really sexy times.

I also understand how you feel about trying to be "socially acceptable" and find a real husband/boyfriend. I'm in my early twenties, and have a pretty successful life like you described, but I sometimes feel like I can't connect with men on an emotional/sexual level like I do with my fictional guy. Just no one feels as good as him.

Basically, I feel a lot of ways you do and I'm open to talking about it all. I don't have much of anyone that understands how I feel IRL, and from your post it seemed the same as well. I just tried to PM you but my account is too new for it to go through :<
