I'm lucky that I live in an area where sexuality is pretty freely discussed among friends and even strangers. There are a lot of sex positive and kink positive groups in my community, as well as support for poly, ethical non-monogamy etc.
Still it is difficult to start that discussion with people who are not in these communities. As others have pointed out, the culture we grow up in really dictates how wee see things. |

Oops I wasn't done!
I think if more people can speak from a sex positive place, we will be better off as a society. It is so nice to be able to talk with others who feel shame or have trauma reactions, or have practical sexual questions, talk about kink or how to communicate boundaries, how to say no to things, etc. It frees up so much stress and anxiety I would otherwise carry. I wish I had found these types of groups twenty years ago! |
