Have you talked to your Pdoc about this, detour1? Maybe that could help. Hopefully he/she will have some some suggestions about what to do. If the meds you're currently taking aren't working, or are causing you trouble sleeping, perhaps it's time to ask for a change of meds. Sending many hugs to you

I'm afraid there aren't a lot of other alternatives, or at least not that I know of, detour1. It's good that you're seeing your Pdoc soon. Ask him/her what can you do about this. Do you see a therapist? Maybe that could help. Sending many hugs to you

I could go on and on like a broken record about sleep. Now, I am not saying that people do not needs meds for sleep or at least before sleep. I take my last dose of lamictal and geodon before bed but I had to learn some things about myself. I used to have horrific insomnia, and I had a sleep study done about..8 or so years ago. (if I describe it right) one of the things I learned was that we have brain waves a couple of which are called alpha and delta waves. Delta waves are deeper sleep and alpha wave are when your brain is "active" or at least not at rest. Well during my deeper stages of sleep I do not always achieve the delta waves so my brain is still kinda going while I sleep. Thats one thing. I have also always been an early riser, the problem was when that was coupled with being a night owl. I have always done great on like 5 or 6 hours of sleep. My doctor told me there are actually some people who legit need less sleep. Its like older people that wake up super early as they age, you need less sleep. Well same thing with me.
So how I mostly tackled my insomnia was sleep training that I googled myself. I go to bed and wake up in the same windows of time everyday 7 days a week. That means for me, I wake up between 4-6 and go to bed between 10-12. Most days its bed at 10 up at 430. I love my mornings and I know it seems crazy. My brain works awesome and I am most productive. It took me 9 months to get this right. That meant setting alarms and waking up even when I didnt want to. It meant feeling tired and sluggish but I swear it worked. Like I said I still take my meds I just do not specifically need sleep meds. I am not knocking sleep meds btw there was a time during my rapid cycling that I would have lost my mind without sleep meds. __________________ "I carried a watermelon?" Hi! Have your doctors ordered an over night sleep study? For me, the doctors did not properly identify my sleep issue, apena, until they finally agreed to a sleep study. The doctors brushed off my exhaustion and sleep issues as just the normal stress of life, until the sleep study showed I stopped breathing sometimes 40 times a minute.

Also, the sleep doctor is a psychologist who incorporates cognitive behavior therapy into each patient's sleep routine. That is to say, they help you design a bed time sleep routine that can take anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks to work, based on how consistent the patient is with their bed time routine. I know that whenever I will deviate from my bed time routine, no sleep for Blanche. I had a sleep study done 20 years ago to address my insomnia. I found out that I am a naturally segmented sleeper (that is, I don't sleep in a full eight hour shift like most, but in 2 shifts). And, I found out that it takes my brain a long time to reach Stage 3 or Delta Sleep which is the stage of deep sleep. You may want to cross check your medications b/c those definitely could be causing or contributing to your insomnia. Medications tend to mess up our sleep cycles really bad. Just how it goes. I am not a doctor but if I remember correctly seroquel is more effective as a sleep aid when its at lower doses. At higher doses its more effective as an antispychotic.

I probably shouldn't even comment here due to my feelings about meds but when I saw the comment about Seroquel I honestly felt a chill go down my spine.
I fail to see how Seroquel could be considered a sleep aid. I flat out almost died from Serequel about 6 years ago. I was on Seroquel but was forced to stop taking it because I got kicked off my mother's insurance and couldn't afford to see a doctor to get a refill. After I stopped taking it, I was awake non stop for almost a full 7 days. I flat out couldn't sleep. Towards the end of the 7 day period, my heart rate and temp were skyrocketing. I don't think I ever was so terrified in my life. I was literally scared to even go to the hospital since my mother used psych wards to "punish" me for disobeying her. Luckily the effects wore off and I was finally able to sleep after almost a full week. So yeah from my experience, Seroquel is anything but a sleep aid. |

Hell if I remember, that was 6 years ago lol. I stay away from prescription medicine now for anything that isn't life threatening. I prefer alternative medicine and natural solutions to my problems. The negative side effects with prescriptions honestly aren't worth the potential reward to me. Speaking of which, maybe OP should try some natural sleep aids? |
