My previous post on this board is about sleep issues my 11 yr. old daughter is having. I think she is now developing sleep anxiety, which makes everything worse, and of course, the anxiety wears on as the night goes on, but now I think she has it even before going to bed, worrying she will not fall asleep that night and get maybe 1 or 2 hours of sleep before school in the morning and then worrying how she will be able to perform/get through the school day. I cannot keep her home every time this happens, or she will miss too much school.

How do you get over sleep anxiety? How do you help a child with it before going through the pediatrician/therapist/psychiatrist route? She shows no outward signs of other mental illness except mild sensory processing disorder and I am not certain if that is all mental or slightly physical too because of the delay of certain fine motor skills (though not skills that affect her day at school).

And that has made all the difference.

Blue, you and I have a lot in common including mixed episodes.
First, are you sure nothings happening at school that you don’t know about?
Second, tell her that just resting is OK. Then lt it go.
My husband is so laid back that it actually causes problems and frankly, I drive him crazy sometimes because I can over analyze things. I have to be proactive to head off problems so nothing triggers my disorder. But this can be irritating and even anxiety provoking to other people.
I offer this out of love.

Hi! Hope your daughter is able to sleep better soon! Having two daughters, and in general with all children today, the stress put upon them at every level of school, socially with this constant online barrage of posts they feel they have to keep up with, NOT to mention if there might be even any negative posts from individuals or bullying they may be dealing with. There is most likely some underlying issue leading the the sleep issues. Sometime it takes a little time to get kids to talk what really might be bugging them! Prayers for patience and strength!
