Default I can't sleep at night

My body clock has gotten turned backwards. I can't seem to break out of it either. I've managed to stay up through the night a few times, but I only ever get to midday the next day before I'm too tired and have to go to sleep, then wake up in the evening. There are nights where I force myself to stay in bed and sleep, but I end up tossing and tuning all night and then I feel wasted the next day, fall asleep midday and wake up in the evening again. It's stopping me from doing anything, since I'm only awake and alert in the middle of the night. Any suggestions for how to beat this?

Have you seen a sleep doctor and had a sleep study done?

If it is not a problem with brain chemistry (you might want to check it at doctor), the rhythm may turn back when you force yourself to stay awake during the day. Not even short naps. Eventually your body will give up and fall asleep at evening.
Another thing you can think of is light. Are you brighter in the dark or in the light? You can always change lighting inside a house. What about sounds? Is it too quiet to sleep at night?

Don't know if this helped, sending hugs.

Looks like you are new here. Welcome. You didn't mention in your post if you are on any medications. A medication I am on was causing sleeplessness so I had to take something to counteract it.

Wow! I never thought about that myself! Great advice! I will keep that in mind!

Take Trazodone at night? I guess I'm the only person taking it. I find it very helpful, though it only works on me for about 4 hours. With a major effort I can force myself not to nap during the day, then within a few days, I'm so tired at night that I have to sleep the whole night.

How about embracing it? If you are a night owl, then that's what you're meant to be. Maybe look at jobs that involve night shifts? Or if you don't work, just do your thing during the nights and sleep during the days. We don't all have to be day time 9-5 er's.
