My spouse has night terrors every night and has done for the entire past 12 years of our living together ( brother reports them back to their childhood)

Does anyone have any tips for helping him? We've tried a lot but I've never had the chance to ask other parasomniacs for help! He's seeing the sleep dr again in a month or so.

If you live with it: tell me what works or helps please

If you lie beside it at night waiting for it to make you jump out of your skin: tell me how you look after yourself! I have taken to staying up late again because I can't deal with waking up to screaming after 30minutes deep sleep.

Thank you all in advance!

Aubrey

Sorry to hear this. That's a pretty chronic case I think. I've had them for years but only 2 or 3 times a year. I don't wake up screaming but I'm pretty damned horrified...usually panting like a racehorse and drenched in sweat. Adrenaline through the roof. Without reading up on cases like your spouse's, I would be wondering if hypnotism might be an option...from a psychologist trained in that sort of thing. Sounds as though the cost might be well worth it. I do wish you find some help. How many doctors has he seen?

For me, the only thing that's had a positive effect on my night terrors is making sure my body temperature doesn't get too hot while I'm sleeping. I make sure I keep relatively cool which somehow keeps the nightmares at bay. Otherwise away I go, ranting and raving making all kinds of creepy noises, yelling!!

So, yes. Maybe he could monitor his body temperature to see if getting too hot while sleeping is a trigger.

All the best Aubrey43.
