Lately, I've felt like I barely need sleep. I feel a constant restlessness. Stay up really late at night because I can't sleep.

But my psychiatrist has tested me before and I'm not bipolar. I thought it might be mania. But you can't have mania without bipolar right?

Also, I did stop taking my antipsychotic, without telling my psychiatrist. Not because I thought I didn't need it. But because I would forget constantly. I still have some and need to start taking it again. Even though I haven't had any psychotic symptoms.

I know you all can't diagnose. But what would cause me to feel like I don't need sleep and feel constantly restlessness?

I mean I do still sleep. But I feel like I sleep very little.

I haven't consumed caffeine late at night. So it isn't that.

I also have racing thoughts too.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

What other meds are you on, including OTC things? Why are you on an antipsychotic? What is the diagnosis? When during the day do you exercise and what do you do? Has anyone ever observed that you seem to be talking fast? Do you ever just feel euphoric for no reason? Do you ever feel like you might be a bit grandiose in your thinking (but maybe are embarrassed to admit it to anyone else)? Ever feel paranoid? Do you have anxiety during the day? Panic attacks? Do you have restless leg syndrome or periodic limb movement disorder? Both can make sleeping almost impossible. And lastly, are there any recreational drugs in the mix of any kind?

Medications: Vraylar, Viibryd, Ritalin, Ativan.

OTC: Vitamin D, Multivitamin, Pantoprazole, Januvia.

I'm on a antipsychotic because I have psychotic symptoms sometimes. My psychiatrist diagnosed me with Psychosis. Although he only puts the diagnosis sometimes, since I don't have symptoms all the time.

Diagnosis I have: Depression, Unspecified Anxiety, Psychosis, Autism Spectrum Disorder.

I only exercise sometimes and it is during the day. I do squats, wall pushups, and go for a walk.

No one has ever said I'm talking too fast.

No, I don't feel euphoric for no reason.

Sometimes I feel like I might be a bit grandiose in my thinking. But I never admit it to anyone else.

Yes, I do get paranoid quite often.

I'm always anxious especially during the day.

I don't have panic attacks.

I used to have restless leg syndrome when I was a kid. But it went away and I haven't had symptoms since.

I don't use recreational drugs.

From my reading of this topic, sleep disorders are extremely common in patients with a psychosis diagnosis. In one good study I saw, the most common issues were insomnia (#1) and nightmare disorder (#2). For some odd reason, fewer than 10% of those affected were having their sleep issues treated. No idea why that is. So, it seems as though what you are experiencing is not at all unusual for folks in your situation. I obviously cannot diagnose you but this is just information for you to digest.

What does your pdoc say about all this? What about trying to address it with some sort of added sleep medication? That's what I have done most of the time when I was in your situation and it has generally helped. Likewise, maybe more could be done to address your daytime anxiety and make you more comfortable. Those are the thought s that immediately come to mind. Sending you positive vibes. Please keep us in the loop as you go forward with this. All the best.

That's interesting information to know. I didn't know that. Thank you for that information.

I haven't told my psychiatrist yet. I don't see him until November. As he is a very popular psychiatrist in my area and is constantly booked.

I could ask him when I see him about possible sleep medication. Although I just remembered he said I could try taking Ativan at night to help with sleep, in the past. I'll try the Ativan first and if that doesn't work, I'll ask him for sleep medication.

I appreciate you answering my post. I'll make sure to keep you updated and post in this thread when an update happens. Or make a new post with an update.
