Last night I had a very bizarre dream. I like to believe that weird dreams we have are just a mess of multiple dreams through out REM sleep spliced together and that's the way our conscious mind remembers it upon waking. This was different, it was a continuous and very vivid dream.
I tend to suffer a lot from nightmares, the occasional night terror, and recurring dreams or at least a recurring place or theme. Most of the time I dream in third person, sometimes I'm watching myself and it feels like it is me, other times I'm watching myself and it does not feel like me. With last night's dream, I was in a recurring dream place, a combination of the historical down town area where I currently live, and the downtown area where I went to high school. I was watching myself walking around the cobblestone streets at night with a young girl who said she was 14, and she had the face of an elephant. She was telling about herself, and eventually when I left her the dream shifted entirely. I was watching myself, but it did not feel like me. I think it might have been the elephant faced girl. I won't go into the details of the next part, but it was like watching a sad movie of this girl (me?) being humiliated by people she just wanted to be friends with. I did some light googling and found that elephants can symbolize repressed thoughts of memories, because an elephant never forgets. Overall, I have no idea what this dream means. Has anyone else experienced odd dreams like this, as in third person, or seeing yourself but feeling like it is not yourself? |

This may mean you will never forget what happened to you while you were growing up.

This girl who had the face of an elephant may represent a part of you when you were 14. A face can be seen as a way how a person presents or wants to present themself to other people. From what I could find about elephants, it seems to be a lot related to positive things, being strong and faithful, patient, a solid foundation for succes, holding an honorable and worthy position. So it may has something to do with memories where you presented or tried to present yourself this way, thinking this would help you while it didn't result into certain people treating you in a better way.

I had originally posted this in the Dissociative Disorders forum, because I have been having more noticeable symptoms of dissociation and I wondered if this could be a part of that, although I suppose I did not express that clearly.
Thunder Bow, I wish that were true, however I honestly don't remember a whole lot from childhood. Blueskyx, I appreciate that you took the time to look up stuff on elephants! I do wonder if this elephant faced girl is a part of me, which again is why I originally posted in the dissociation threads. I honestly have no idea. I saw her again in dream last night, although I'm having a tough time recalling most of it. |
