I'm from the USA (south/religious chunk), female and 17 years old. I've been having reoccurring dreams about being raped. These dreams have been occurring for the past few years. In most of my rape dreams I'm in a bathroom.
My recent "bathroom rape dream" was me sitting on the toilet and all of a sudden these big men appear out of the closet and open my bathroom door.
Possible trigger:
The dream I had last night was that I was in school (I'm graduated now) at a dance when this guy started inappropriately touching and groping me. However, this dream was weird because I'm pretty sure my gender was switching throughout the dream. When I was being inappropriately touched I was a male, but when I was reporting it I was a female, but remembering it as me being a male. I want to know if my reoccurring rape dreams suggest that I've actually been sexually abused in my waking life and my brain is trying to ease me into the idea before I have a memory of the abuse. The reason I say this is because there is a part of my life that I can't remember. 3rd grade music class has been a blur for me, I remember everything that was before music class and after music class, but never the actual class. All my brain is letting me remember at the moment is being led to this back room which was used for puppet shows. However, I always remember me going to this room with little to no classmates. It was never a full class, but I can't remember what took place whenever I was in there. Why was I being led to a backroom if the class wasn't with me ? I also feel like these dreams are trying to tell me I've been sexually abused because within the past few years I've been reflecting on my life and a few inappropriate memories came to light. They are all memories that I excuse as not being harmful. For example a specific person touching me on my private part while they believe I'm asleep. I've excused this memory as them being half asleep themself and not knowing what they were doing. Please let me know if I'm overlooking my dreams or past experiences and making them things they're not. Last edited by CANDC; Jan 19, 2020 at 05:40 PM.. Reason: add paragraph breaks + Trigger |

Hello Bella P: Thank you for bringing your concern here to PC. I'm sorry I can't really comment on your disturbing dreams. I think why you are having them, & what they may mean, is something you would need to work through with the help of a skilled mental health professional... perhaps a mental health therapist or a psychologist. However I noticed this is your first post here on PC. So I wanted to at least welcome you to Psych Central.
Here's a link to an "Ask the Therapist" column, from Psych Central's archives, where the writer asked about sexual abuse dreams she was having. Her dreams are different from yours. But the therapist's reply may be apropos. And then, also, here is a link to an article that discusses how to eliminate recurring nightmares: Nightmares of Sexual Abuse But No Memory of it Occuring - Ask the Therapist How to Eliminate Recurring Nightmares I hope you find PC to be of benefit. __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." Hi @Bella P,
I can't really say if your dreams are reflecting a reality or not, but obviously you're concerned that they could be. I've read and heard about hypnotherapy as being a tool that hypnotherapists use to unlock repressed memories and missing time. At the very least, they might be able to stop your recurring dreams from occurring. Perhaps you could look into seeing a hypnotherapist, Bella P? And thank you for sharing, as well. All the best. |

My sister used to experience these sorts of dreams, though she has never been raped. The nightmare would occur every month as she would wake up in cold sweats. She told me it stopped for years and she thinks it was related to being taken advantage of at work and her relationships. I dont know if that helps. Maybe you can do inner child work or see a hypnotherapist if you think this was the case. Good luck.

Hi,
A dream about rape does not mean that you have necessarily been raped in real life. Do you tend to feel "invaded" in real life? That your space (physical or emotional) is not being respected? Onira Last edited by bluekoi; Apr 07, 2020 at 11:43 PM.. Reason: Add triggger icon. |
