I started a pattern of staying up to the wee hours of the morning reading books and now I'm having trouble sleeping at night. I've tried Trazodone and Melatonin, but no luck.

What else do you suggest? I'm not going to take Seroquel. Thanks!

Dear Travelinglady,

As someone who also struggles with sleep problems, my heart goes out to you. I have found that cutting down on salt and increasing my intake of potassium helps me. I read somewhere that sodium stimulates wakefulness in the brain. Since cutting down on salt and increasing my consumption of potassium rich foods, I am experiencing less sleep problems. Perhaps this is just a placebo effect though. I don't know. Hopefully you will find something that helps you!

Sincerely yours, Yao Wen

Thanks for the suggestions. I've had to cut down on potassium. because I have too much in my blood. I'm now trying to cut down on caffeine.

Yeah, I need to do the same time at night and same time in the morning pattern. I got up before ten o'clock, because that's what my pdoc recommended.

Have you tried reading boring books? There's almost no topic that that is boring per say but there are boring writers. Woman in the window was supposed to be a thriller but put me to sleep.

I tend to get "turned around" if I keep getting up later and later.

So I get up around the same time every day. My cat assists with that.

*mom, I want my breakfast*.

I think first and foremost you should have a sleep study.

I have been doing the same thing, lately. Not good. For me, my sleep habits change during the heat of summer.
