My partner gets these very horrific and vocal night terrors almost weekly. He yells loudly, "HELP!" When I've tried to wake him, he's grabbed my wrist rather aggressively or slapped my face, all because he's not awake and takes my actions as a threat. He thrashes around, trying to fight whatever is in his dream, and once on vacation kicked a shelf off the wall that was approx 4' above his bed, then got a huge gash on his shin. He just deals with them because he's had them for as long as he can remember, but it seems like there must be something causing these? Does anyone have any insight on this? I haven't had much luck researching on my own. Thanks!!

Mine are caused by a very traumatic childhood. I've learned to sleep with nothing surrounding my bed that I can hit. To wake me up the safest course of action is to just call my name or shake my toe then jump out of kicking range.

Mine have gotten better over the years with therapy and prazosin. The prazosin is actually a blood pressure pill but for some reason it helps some people with night terrors.

If your partner has not tried therapy I would highly suggest it. Good luck to you two
