Hi, I am hoping I had my last cigarette this morning. I started in my early teens, but was never as heavy a smoker as I have been for the last 2 and a half years. I've quit many times, there were many years in my life that I was smoke free.
The last time I wasn't smoking, I remember being so thankful and saying I would never again touch a cigarette. It only lasted 6 months, but I remember how bad the smell of cigarettes became to me, and feeling sorry for those I saw that were stuck in the addiction. Well, I want to blame my doctor. He is partly to blame, in my mind. 2 and a half years ago I had gained about 25 pounds, after six months of no cigs. THe dang doctor commented on this. I said "i quit smoking", he said "BUT, now much weight did you gain?" and after I replied, he, i swear on my life, said "then go and smoke, and forgive yourself for it'..... I was so flippin mad, and I walked around mad that a doctor told me to smoke, because, as he put it "Its either that, or the diabetes is going to kill you". I still want a smoke so badly. I'm typing all this thinking it will help to distract me, and it does, for a little while. I've never felt such a strong urge to just go get another pack. Although, the fact that they went up in price, and basically I'm burning 50 cents every cig, kind of deters me from continuing. Any support would be appreciated |

I watched a health show on TV where an eminent doctor said putting on some weight was less bad for you than smoking. Your doctor sounds like he just wants you to feel bad.
I googled : "What's worse - weight gain or smoking?" I saw a number of articles. On my new smart phone, I don't know how to copy and paste. But check it out. The articles tend to kind of avoid the question by saying that smoking doesn't have to lead to more than a slight gain in weight. I realize that for many people the weight gain can be substantial. I haven't found an article that really compares the risk of substantial weight gain with smoking. I've never, ever heard any health expert advocate smoking as a technique for weight control. I think your doctor is being irresponsible. I think his remark was crazy. He's said other off-the-wall things to you, if I remember rightly. I wish you could see a different doctor. |

Well it's months later, I didn't quit. It has gotten so out of control. I give the cigarettes the power over me, and I regret it. I'm sitting here tonight, just got up and was coughing to the point it seems my esophagus is squeezed tight.
I wanted to add, in case anyone reads this and is having trouble, I'd suggest do not go buy a vaporizer without nicotine. Maybe I'm using it wrong, but I just got one yesterday and I'm thinking this has caused some real problems in my throat area. And please, if you never smoked, DON"T try it. It to me is a very hard addiction to overcome. |

Stay strong, resist Satan, and prove that doctor wrong! It’s not worth it?
