Does anyone else have social anxiety and want to hide from everyone literally and yet at the same time feel invisible with dislike and almost resentment for seeming to be invisible to the world. Yet sometimes being invisible is a great thing to be. It feels like “I’m shy, but I don’t want to be.” Look at me, give me some attention, no never mind if attention involves a large crowd staring at me, “what will I say, my heart is beating fast, I want to be swallowed up by the ground beneath my feet.”

Yes, I can relate to aspects of your post, most definitely, as I am cursed with quite severe social anxiety @zapatoes.
When I was younger, I just had a strong desire to avoid social things, not really knowing why I had so much fear and trepidation in me, but at the same time feeling quite lonely within my spirit too, yes. |

Out there I try to be invisible. And I apparently succeed much of the time. I've been in line & people cut in front of me, like they don't see me. That feels so interesting to me. Times like that I wonder if I'm actually here. But I like that better than feeling the world out there.

I seem to “succeed” in being invisible out there much of the time too So many people are rude and ignorant __________________ |

I try not to be rude and cut people off in line, sometimes it’s difficult since two people arrive at the checkout at the same time and it feels like, ok who was first to arrive and should go first. In the past I will let the person behind me go first if they have 2 items and my cart is full, but then a few times when I arrive the same time as someone else I feel guilty for going ahead of them. Sometimes I will ask too, and say are you in line and sometimes they’re not.

Learn to tolerate your thoughts & feelings when socializing.
Feel the fear and do it anyway.. ERP techniques are used in therapy to overcome anxiety - here's a video explaining YouTube |
