So for a few years I've had severe social anxiety. I haven't had any friends since I was 10 and only times I went outside was for school. I didn't talk to anyone during school time and haven't even had a proper conversation in years. I am now 18, almost finished high school and have 0 social skills. During the past few years even grocery shopping was impossible for me and I had to rely on other people to do everything for me. Only recently I gathered up courage and went to a store. Even walking down the street makes me paranoid and i keep looking around. I am very lost and as I said I can't even look at people without being scared. I am stuck and I don't know where to start. My future doesn't look very bright. How will I ever find a job? Where should I start I want to take small steps please keep in mind that even walking down the street causes extreme discomfort and I behave very strangely around people. I haven't had proper contact with people for a long, long time. Is there an hope?

There is hope. I think it takes the same courage you took when going to the store. Exposure to the fears a little at a time helps and being patient with yourself.

Here's one article on exposure to fears:

Are you seeing a therapist who can help you?
Since ten. Wow, I’m sorry. I was 17 when I isolated myself from world
Are you alone in this process?

Hey @Lurker1234,

I fully hear where you're coming from as I have really bad social anxiety, as well. I'm slowly coming through the worst times I've had with it, though.

Yes, it's awful isn't it? Even weird looks from other people can send me into a downward spiral sometimes, it's awful.

BUT, you're 18, and I absolutely feel that if you seek help now - the therapist, the doctor - you'll have a future. Oh, absolutely. Things will change and you'll still be young, as well. What you're going through is actually shared by a lot of people so I just want you to know, you're not alone with this and you do have a future.

My message is: reach out, please.
