Default I need advice

I think I may have Munchausens syndrome. I always start with symptoms i am experiencing with tests coming back negative. And slowly I exaggerate my symptoms for attention. I am always seeking attention. I think it stems from childhood neglect. But it is very stressful for me. I am always obsessed with some kind of illness and thinking I have it and lying about having the symptoms. I am worried I will do something that will hurt myself or someone else. What should i do

Do you have a Therapist ?? I think this would be best explored in therapy sessions to find out the possible root cause

I think worry is a normal reaction To what you explained has been going on. I think you should explain these concerns with your doctor. They would then refer you to where you can get help. I know you feel worried. Recognizing these behaviors and seeking help is a big step towards you overcoming them. You are doing the right thing.

Hello, Pricehaylein. In this thread you discuss a diagnosis of "somatic symptom disorder" and a large number of other diagnoses, all of which are psychological. Before receiving any of these diagnoses, and regardless of how you feel about your symptoms, did doctors perform a full physical exam on you including bloodwork?

It has been my experience, once any psych diagnosis enters the picture, doctors are too ready to see all symptoms through the lens of that diagnosis. It really is possible to suffer from physical and mental illnesses simultaneously.

In addition to what Christina mentioned, I think it would be wise to mention this to your medical providers. That way they can keep in mind that they might need to adjust their approach when working with you. You need them to be vigilant when something is wrong, but they also need to probably question you more thoroughly knowing that you have a history of exaggerating symptoms.

I think it is great you are reflecting on this and seeking advice. I hope your situation improves. Be well

There are so many people who constantly seek attention! The thing is, it's not necessarily a "bad" thing if you are getting attention by doing something creative...art, performance, research, being part of a support group, etc., etc.

How do you feel when you receive attention for something that you enjoy doing?

Well... at the risk of suggesting the obvious I would think the first thing to do (assuming you actually are physically healthy) might be to find a psychologist or mental health therapist who can work with you on this. Beyond that... here are links to 3 articles, from PC's archives, 1 on the subject of Munchausen Syndrome & 2 on health anxiety:
