I am so used to hearing others tell me the abuse was nothing, that I was exagerating or making it up, so I stopped talking.
Now, I know what happened and when, but why should I talk about it if nobody is interested. All I get from talking is the emotional flashback.

I'm sorry you have had people downplay your trauma. No trauma should ever be downplayed. It impacted your life that is your truth. Do not listen to those that won't let you speak your truth. Welcome to Psych Central

Perhaps consider seeing a therapist. A lot of people are uncomfortable with hearing about trauma, and don't know what to say; they further traumatize you. Do you have ONE safe person you can talk to? Sadly, so many people have been traumatized.

This is very common and very frustrating. Im sorry for your pain. These forums are a great place to get help from people with understand and will not downplay your experience.

You might want to check out the Post Traumatic Stress topic here. Sounds like you might be suffering from PTSD which is very common for people who have been abused.

I do suggest you talk to a caring therapist. They would not downplay. Family members may downplay or blame you for it. I learned not to talk about my drama with anyone other than a professional. Not only people downplayed it, but I got teased and called names as well, which made me feel worse.. However, therapy helps.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I used to do it to myself actually, say I deserved certain things or that it doesnt matter because of whatever reason I told myself...bottom line, abuse is just that, and it has to be addressed because too much of your life can be taken over by every little bit of each experience. Go see a psychologist, and if that doesn't fit, neuropsych...just like there's subforums on here, there's "subspecialties" for treatment of abuse victims. Work your way up from the bottom...from what happened, to how it effected you, how it effects you know, what you do to cope and your support system...sometimes, even meds, but thats only if, ya know. Don't get discouraged and let it stop you from healing, because it's easier to be down than it is to get up...but we're all here, and we're trying with you
