I told my therapist about my sexual abuse. She is required to report the incident to Child Welfare. What will happen. I explicitly told her I didn't want my parents finding out. Will they find out? What will they do?

Dear OutOfMyMind75,
I wish I had an answer to your question, but sadly I don't. I can see how distressing this all is. Hopefully it will all work out for the very best for you! Sincerely yours, Yao Wen |

This is something I learned from the days events. If you are a minor and don't want your family to find out about the abuse, don't tell anyone. Not an adult or therapist. They are required to contact CPS, and they will not be discrete. My Mom and Dad now know about the sexual abuse. Everything is out of wack. If you want to keep it a secret, once again DO NOT TELL A THERAPIST OR ADULT!!! If you are not a minor, I think they handle the situation differently.

That is something that the therapist should have gone over with you in terms of what they will keep confidential and what they won't. Most of what you tell a therapist is confidential but some of it isn't. And they should have told you what wouldn't be confidential. Because you are a minor they have an obligation to keep you safe. They are legally bound. That is why the therapist had to report it.
What you are going through must be so incredibly difficult right now. I hope things turn out for the best. You do deserve to be protected. __________________ Dum Spiro Spero IC XC NIKA |

An update for anyone else in my situation. There will be an investigation launched, no matter what. Right now it doesn't look like it will go to trial, but it may. They have 60 days to complete the investigation. Therapy has started, and I was diagnosed with PTSD, and am being put on anti-depressants.
Note: One thing we didn't know is that you don't have to let Child Welfare or CPS into your home. Get a lawyer, and then meet to make sure your families rights are fought for and validated. We didn't know this, which is why we are in the mess we are in now. Brother was taken out of home, parents never look at me the same, feel like everything is out of wack. |

Yes. Because they are required to be informed about what been reported. I dealt with them myself. Which is why I kept the abuse to myself..
