Hello all, I'm coming up to two years sober and I'm starting to reach out to the people I need to make amends to. I'm wondering if a PM on Facebook is somewhat cheesy in establishing contact in order to get their address so I can send a letter?

Thoughts on this?

Have you talked with your sponsor? When it came time to do Step 9, my sponsor helped me decide which people from Step 4 were most important to make amends to. On my Step 4 list I had people listed whom I hadn't seen or talked to in 20 years...& the step says "became WILLING to make amends..." My sponsor said many of those folks I listed wouldn't remember me, OR my transgressions - & might just dredge up bad memories for them. Thank goodness for sponsors.

I don't see anything cheesy about using Facebook to make amends. If it clears your conscience

Thanks for the affirmations. I'll discuss in more detail with my sponsor. Agreed, I won't discount Facebook from initiating an amends.

FIRST and foremost..I want to congratulate you on your sobriety!! I also think it's very commendable that you want to contact people concerning your life..just be careful so that you are aware that some people will not be kind to you. I think it's awesome that you are willing to "make amends" if that is the case..Good luck and take care!

I think it's a good idea to start with Facebook and then write your letter. It's never too late to try to make amends. This is something you need to do for yourself and I hope the people you've hurt will understand that you were under the influence at the time. They may be very glad to hear from you and know that you have worked hard to recover. Good luck.

Made direct amends wherever possible. Direct being the key word in that step.
