Hi, I'm James. Just trying to reach out to others with DID. I'm 25 and am kind of a gatekeeper (which is getting exhausting).

my alters didnt even know they were by psychological definitions alters / gate keepers. when I was so triggered that I would have my dissociation symptoms the alter that took care of that trigger would come out and function just like any other human being. example Rainy didnt think of herself as a protector/ gate keeper / alter/ fragment or what ever. she thought of her self like a little girl between the ages of preschool to 10 (we never knew her exact age) she just like any human girl would change out of wet clothing, make a cup of hot chocolate and PB&j sandwich, get her blanket and sit on the sofa watching tv and eating just like any other normal human being her age. Another example Thelma did not think of herself as a protector/ gate keeper of intimacy. just like any other normal teen ager/ young adult she would get dressed, put on make up and go out on dates and handle any intimacy moments I and my intimate partners had. its very rare among anyone that I know for their alters to call their self alters and gate keepers. so it may take a long time if ever someone is so triggered while on psych central that they switch into an alter that does call their self an alternate and gate keeper to the person that they are born in instead of considering their self just like any other human person. maybe you can post about things you like to do and others who have alters, can tell you if their alters do the same things. and on a rare occasion if someone gets triggered into their dissociation symptoms, while reading psych central, their alters will see your post and reply to you. |

I can relate. Each person will have differing experiences and different reference points. I have a protector who has no name but is beyond stubborn in letting other points of view or positive thoughts in. Gate keepers are protectors. My protector argued with my P'doc this week. And you are right. It is beyond exhausting.

Something I like is nature. Unlike humanity, nature's only cruel when it has to be. I've known about my job for a while. In order to protect the others, I had to know about them, in our situation at least.
I'm sorry your protector did that. Our pdoc doesn't know. Only our therapist. I'm not much of a yeller and I'd rather sit back until I'm needed. Só hasn't been so good, which is sort of why I'm here. Can you talk to your alter/protector about maybe trying the "sit and watch" approach? __________________ "Give him his freedom and he'll remember his humanity." |

There are times when the person taking care of things comes across something new and doesn't know what to do. I am going through that now, and I wonder if that is what you were talking about James.
I read that the thing to do is keep going and even-tu-ally - event-ually but not for some time - things will get clearer. I read that in a magazine, lol, but it sounds like just what I don't want to do when I'm scared and don't understand what to do to make things better. But usually event-ually I find out what is up and what to do about it. The magazine said: don't judge yourself, do things that you find comforting however silly they might seem it's ok. Like putting your books in alphabetical order might seem silly but feel ok. I remember something else we read saying that when we are triggered our thinking goes fast and complicated so the thing is to slow down and do one small thing at a time. I am going to look up that book right now. L/Saidso |

Hi James. I can relate too. We have different protectors for different things, but we don't have any alter that identifies as a "gatekeeper". We do have one that often jumps to the front when protection is needed, even on here. I think it is a good thing to reach out to others. It is certainly a brave thing!
Welcome to you. |

Question to the poster
Is there a area a clan that keeps ur gatekeeper all knowing and thinking? Who does the gatekeeper protect? Does this means play towards the crowd a little less ? Is it proving loyalty? Is there resistance to change? Is it apart of the hypnosis process? |
