okay so for years i have shaved my legs, underarms and bikini but i seem to be having a reaction lately. my bikini has a heap of red bumps and my underarm skin has discoloured to a browny colour. i wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions as to what i can do to stop it. waxing is not an option as i'm allergic. also i can't afford anything really expensive
any suggestions would be amazing! thanks |

Hair removal cream maybe? You could have had a reaction to the shaving cream you were using. If you continue shaving just make sure you have a hot bath/shower at least 20 minutes beforehand and then shave gently in the direction of the hair. Maybe use a shaving cream for sensitive skin? Ive found that if i shave too much over the same spot i get razor burn so perhaps buy a better razor? Someone mentioned using mens ones for getting a closer shave so maybe thats an idea. Do you always moisturize afterwards? I have too or my legs go terribly bumpy and itchy. Pat the area dry with a towel instead of rubbing then use something fragrance free and hopefully this should help. All the best.

Are you using a different antiperspirant? some of the ones that don't mark your clothes, do that by building up on your underarms forever - is that what is causing the brown discoloration, or are you becoming diabetic, cuz that could be it, too.

I've had luck using my conditioner in place of shaving cream. Since I use it on my hair, I know I won't react to it. I have the same issue with itchy bumps. Sometimes a little witch hazel dabbed on with a cotton ball after shaving helps too.

Since we were teenagers my best friend has suffered from horrible razor bumps every time she shaved. Back when she could still shave she always used this stuff called Bump Stopper. She also had good luck with hydrocortisone cream reducing the redness and swelling. She has developed a metal allergy and can no longer shave at all. Magic Shave isn't really expensive and it works great. I know it's meant for black men but it's one of the only things she can use now. My skin isn't sensitive at all except to bleach but I have had the odd reaction or two. Learn from my stupidity and make sure to test any new product you try on a very small patch of skin first.

I too suffer the discoloration of my underarms, I have since I was a teenager, regardless of the shaving cream or razor I use. My father, brother and I naturally sweat a lot, so I think that may play a factor. But it definitely deters me from wearing sleeveless tops (which I prefer as I'm warm natured). As of yet I've found no real solutions to that.
