Hello there,

In mid June I am scheduled for an abdominal hysterectomy. I have a large mass near my left ovary that will need taken out and the ovary fallopen tube, uterus and cervix. Leaving one ovary and fallopin tube. A few months ago I had a large mass taken out near the ovary and that is why the ovary is going this time around. I have no choice but to have an open incision talked with several doctors. Anyone out there has had this type of hysterectomy?

i had a vaginal and the doctor completely &^%$#@ me up. i bled for six months and another doctor had to go in through my abdomen and correct all the mistakes the first doctor made. i was very sore (they have to cut through your muscles) but i was operated on correctly the second time and my recovery was unremarkable........i still have my ovaries though......xoxoxo pat

Hi,
Yep. Been there. I had two c-sections prior so they went thru the same incision. I don't know your age, but if you are older have them do a complete or they will have to go back in at a later time to get the ovary that is left. If you are younger and don't want to be thrust into surgical menopause, perhaps keeping one is the best way to go. At least ask the question of your surgeon.
Best of luck! Guaranteed 6 weeks off of work which is sure what I could use right now! abdominal hysterectomy
Best,
Okie

I hear you fayerody. I dont like the thought of a major incision but i know that laparscopy didnt work the first time to take the ovarian cyst. It is also good that they get a good look at what is going on in my abdomen. I will be glad to get rid of the heavy bleeding and cramping of a period. It sounds silly to say but I am more concerned with this surgery than my 2 open heart surgeries.

Take care,
Leslie

Leslie do not pick anything up heavier than a can of soda either for the 6 weeks they tell you. oh another thing. your bladder will fall at some point. have the dr do MMK while he is in there too. it will save more surgery later. trust me on that one. they didn't tack mine and I have to have that done a few years later. mmk is where they stitch the bladder to the pelvic bone. it works great!

For awhile, I felt like they should just install a zipper.... my first surgery in that area was at 19 - it was the size of a cantalope, had several adhesion type removals thru the years...

Ten years ago, I had a complete - ovaries too...(I was worried that since I had been cut in the same area so any times that it wouldn't heal properly but it turned out great.)

Personally, I would have them take both ovaries - that is just my opinion,,, and fix the bladder so it doesn't fall while they are at it...that way you are "done" with it.. and no chance of ovarian cancer.

I had already gone thru menopause at 36, so when I had the surgery - they gave me the option of going on estrogen and I did... and never looked back....

as already mentioned, don't lift!!!
and walk gradually, little by little... and your strength will come back.

Take Care freewill
