I am in a relationship with my best friend and partner. We are both female. If we marry and become ready for children...

If we both get pregnant at the same time, would the babies be twins whether or not they are born at the same time or day and from different mothers? If so I would then I would assume if we are both pregnant with twins then we would we have quadruplets that would possibly be born on different days and times. Its a curious thought is all.

No, they would not be twins. They would be siblings.

My vote, siblings.
I see this as a similar situation to a friend of mine. She and her husband could not have children naturally. Through an interesting turn of events they adopted a little girl privately through family friends and then within weeks (months?) they got a call that they could adopt a little boy. So similar in that the moms were pregnant around the same time and 2 different moms. The kids are siblings.
Interestingly, my friend said she got the funniest looks for the 1st year or 2. Double takes because they were far enough apart that it was clear they weren't twins but not far apart enough to be 2 sequential pregnancies. (also the little girl has dark hair and quite tanned skin while the little boy is the palest redhead). By the time they were pre-school, the little girl was very tall for her age so they looked at least a year apart, so far fewer explanations to strangers after that. :-)

normally no but there is a way for two women to give birth to twins.....with each woman carrying one child...

biologically twins can happen in two ways....

1. one egg splits into two babies. this is called identical twins.
2. two eggs by the same person are fertilized by the same donor and those eggs develop into babies. this is called Fraternal Twins.

when you have two people of the same gender trying to have a child the process is called IVF (in Vitro Fertilization) its a process where donors are used.

my wife and I used the same donors and only one of us donated our eggs at a time...

Example my eggs were fertilized by only one mans sperm. When my wife wanted to be the pregnant one her eggs were fertilized with the same mans sperm ( the man is a friend of ours who kindly donated to us so that we may have children)

then the eggs were implanted in my womb. in the event that all implanted came to term my wife and I decided only to implant two not like those famous multiple births in the news.

of our combined children we do have a set of twins, born from one egg, but we did not split them up after they became viable fetuses. I carried them both. my wife was given the option but she was not ready physically at the same time I was.

my point is if you or your partner have one egg that is fertilized and that egg splits into two fetuses technically they are identical twins. regardless of who is the incubator. why because they came from the same egg and same mother and father.

that said everything must line up. its very rare for one egg to split into two babies in a lab setting.

both of your bodies must be synchronized so that you both are at the same point of ovulation and your wombs are fully ready for harvesting and implanting. this is done through a series of injections. then the harvesting happens, then the lab does their part of fertilizing, then when one egg has split in two fetuses (could be the first time harvesting is done or it could be the millionth time you go through the harvesting procedure could possibly never happen if your family lines has never had any twins in its family tree)

then the implantation process starts where both again get injections to again make the body reach ovulation in order to synchronize the womb, and hopefully the now viable fetus doesnt die in the lab while waiting for moms to be lined up physically,

then implantation of both is done.

then like normal the body fights the implantation because the body normally does reject foreign material in the body. so more injections, more meds,....

then the what have yous has to line up again where both you and your partners body makes it through the rejecting phase and does not miscarry, and bring the twins to term.

then everything has to line up again for the due dates and delivery process.

my points...... yes it can happen but its very very rare because all the different elements must line up perfectly.

its a very costly process, like in the thousands. and for some people it takes many years do go from start to holding their babies.

This is super interesting to me. My daughter is gay and she has been with her girlfriend for 5 years (almost 6). They are very happy and settled but very young (21 and 24). Ideally they want to get married and have kids one day in the future. Her girlfriend has 2 brothers so, and I don't think there has been any discussion about it with them, but if they both agreed to donate, it would result in the unique situation where, with my daughter's egg, the baby would genetically be related to both the girls and there would really be no way to trace back to either brother, it would almost be like her girlfriend's sperm, sort of. Kind of a neat scenario if it works out.

sorry but donors and eggs have to be not related on all sides.
they do extensive DNA testing. due to rape and incest laws.

example....

when my wife and I and this male friend do our donations we have to sign a legal document that states

my wife and I are not biologically related,
my wife and the donor are not related,
the donor and I are not related.

then they harvest the donations and do extensive tests including DNA.

if any of the genetic markers of the sperm match any of the genetic markers of me my wife or the egss, we can be prosecuted for the crime of incest. which also covers giving birth children by ones relatives.

just like its illegal for brothers and sisters to marry and have sex and have children, its illegal for brothers to be the sperm donator for the sister.

if your daughter and her partner wants to raise one of the brothers children, that brother will have to fall in love with someone else, get them pregnant and when the child is born, the brothers and their loves go to court and give up their rights to their child so that your daughter can legally adopt the child. but the child can not be the offspring of your daughters eggs or her partners eggs with the brothers sperm. other wise its illegal.
