So my periods have never been regular, but they did come fairly regularly.. sometimes at the 4 week mark, sometimes 5, sometimes longer. Sometimes in between. But now I'm noticing I'm not buying products as much. Or using as many. My period was never super heavy to begin with but now it's pretty mild. I think it's been about 6 weeks since my last. I'm obese so that probably contributes. I've always had hot/cold issues my temperature is never right!! I had a tubal ligation like 7 years ago so pregnancy is out. Yes it can happen but seriously, I doubt it.
I'll only be 37 this fall.. I thought this stuff happened later in life.. I have no one to go over this with. Don't talk to my mom, and she had a full hysterectomy when I was young. So..
Maybe my sister has some insight. We are only half siblings and not close tho. Ugh.. health matters are hard when your family is shot..

It is perimenopause. It can happen up to 15 years before menopause. It started with me around that age. I started having my periods come earlier and they were more violent. I also had much greater "bouts" of anger. Everyone has different symptoms.

If you can get the book "what your doctor won't tell you about perimenopause" that will help you.

I went and got natural progesterone (on amazon) and it helped a lot.

I am now going though early menopause and it is much different. I haven't had a period in about 3 months.

Hi Calypso. Good question. Periods can become irregular or lighter for lots of reasons. Not necessarily menopause. And yes, you are young for that. It does happen early in some cases but that is rare. I used to have very irregular periods and migraines. Then I started having regular acupuncture treatments from a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor (PhD). My periods are now like clockwork and the migraines stopped completely. If your hormones are out of whack, it can affect you in various ways. The problem with traditional MDs is that they have a tendency to take extreme measures first rather than as a last resort; that can cause more problems. This is why I favor a holistic approach. It has helped me tremendously with my emotional and physical health. You mentioned being overweight. Hormone imbalance could be a factor there too. I recommend doing a search for a TCM doc. You might be amazed.

Probably not likely here in central Maine.. and my boyfriend and I don't have a vehicle. I really don't rely on pharmaceutical as a whole as is. Some meds I have to take to control things like blood sugar, blood pressure, and chronic migraines. And I'm trying out lyrica for fibromyalgia but so far it's pretty useless. Since I've quit drinking and stopped the psych meds I feel so much better. I do some natural stuff to feel better and calm down. Tea, aromatherapy, hot showers, essential oils, Bach's rescue remedy. Stuff like that..

Those are good ideas. You could also try guided meditation on youtube.

About three years ago I started having hot flashes and skipping periods or getting it twice in the same month. I went to my gyn and he did bloodwork and a uterine biopsy to see if i was in early menopause. I am not but I am in perimenopause. I am 44 and like you I feel too young for this. I also have some endoctine issues and an autoimmune disease with arthritis so its hard to tell what thing is causing it so I just accept it. When it first happened I got a pregnancy test even though my husband had a vasectomy.

i had my youngest at 39 and started perimeno immediately after he was born. i am now 54 and have completed full menopause for close to 4 years now. i think it was his birth that set it off but also check if you are able your family history of when other females went through it. for instance my bio mother had almost finished when she passed at age 52 and her mother was completely done by age 50 so it isnt as uncommon as it might seem. hope this helps even a little

Crap that totally made me cry. Lol. Between the humor and honestly of it. Perimenopause could be the answer. But I don't feel the need to seek out meds or hormones or anything. Was just curious as to what was going on with my body. I don't find any comfort in knowing my body is starting to change and I'm getting older.. but thank you for that article @sarahsweets and thank you all for answering!!

I always had very long and very heavy regular periods until about two years before officially hitting menopause at 52. I urge you to talk to your ob/gyn. They would help you to gain clarity.

I am 47 it just started..my emotions are all over the map no period since January, hot flashes, and if someone bump me in the street I wanna punch them. I have never been confrontational. Hot flashes I’ll deal with but the up and down emotions I can’t..

I am not sure I had the emotions thing but I am 48 and I am really suffering the hot flashes, or rather it is like waives.

One moment I am hot -- one moment I am cold... definitely have never experienced this before. No period since December.
