Default Heavy periods

So I am on this med that made my periods go away for about six months. They lowered my dose and they are back. I have always been a heavy bleeder my mom was a heavy bleeder. I am anemic. Very anemic. Like last year I almost needed a blood transfusion. I went to the hospital because my body felt so weird like my muscles didnt want to work and they said I was at a 7 at 5 you need a transfusion. Anyway, I am bleeding so heavy on my periods I dont know what is safe anymore. I heard if you soak a pad an hour that is bad. I soak more than that on the first 4 days of my period.

Hi Dnester...

Have you talked to your doctor about the bleeding? Yes, soaking more than a pad an hour for several hours is considered too much bleeding... when you talk to your doctor, you need to mention that specifically, because that helps them know objectively how much you're bleeding (otherwise, if you just say "a lot" - they can't really tell how much that is).

In the short term, I've read (and am using) that ibuprofen can help *decrease* bleeding. I take 4 pills (total = 800mg), 3x/day to help with cramps and bleeding. I'm having a weird period now where I'm not getting cramping, but am having SO MUCH blood that it's scaring me, and I started with the ibuprofen and it does seem to slow it down a bit (thankfully).

But - if you're on other meds, make sure you check with your doctor or check online, to be sure that they won't interfere with each other, and that you're not overdosing on one thing.

And, definitely talk to the doc when you can about the bleeding. I'm not sure what kind of help they can offer, but hopefully they can find something that helps.

All this stuff is so unfun, sorry you're suffering.

That is too much bleeding I think. Talk to your gyno. I hope they can help.

If you are open to birth control, you can pretty much stop them with that. I got an iud for a year and was dry as a bone. Then I had a hysterectomy and its been like a little bit of heaven since. Drastic but worked.

Again I have heard stories of natural progesterone stopping the heavy bleeding or reducing it. Check on amazon. I think the reviews I have stories of that.

And you have had ultrasounds for fibroids by your gynecologist, I hope? When that type of heavy bleeding occurred to both my mom and her mom, it was because of fibroids. My mom needed to leave work, one day, I remember because she was soaked.
