How do you ladies feel about this. I was reading a huff post article that was very pro-sex during your period. I have had sex during my period but only by accident, as it came while I was doing it and I didnt know until after. The article had some good points. It mentioned how the world is still super uncomfortable with periods and how its almost taboo to talk about it. That we should be ashamed of something our bodies naturally go through. The article said many men do not understand it all that well, have never seen it so its automatically disgusting to them. Part of the issue the article said is our exposure to blood is mostly due to horror movies and graphic content. Its always a negative so subliminally we are predisposed to feel a certain way. it also stated that many women experience raised hormones and sexual desire which I do experience. Sometimes I wonder if I was cursed to want to be intimate with my husband badly but be stuck with my period.
Proper care should be taken like a dark towel to prevent mess, showers afterward. But I dont know... is this bad? Good? Should we just chill out about our periods already? Are we supposed to graphically "educate" the men in our lives about it? I cant even imagine my husband's face: "I went to the bank today oh and my period flow is very heavy. Pass the potatoes please". Interested in everyone's thought. __________________ "I carried a watermelon?" President of the no F's given society. |

Nobody had taught me anything negative or positive about periods. I got to form my own opinions. IME, I loved everything about it, unlike most any other woman I’ve ever heard speak of theirs. My lovers also were positive and into having sex during. I guess we hadn’t gotten the memo that it was bad and off limits!

I don’t get a period anymore but when I did I always had an increased sex drive during it. I’ve never acted on the urge but I don’t think there is anything bad about it if one wants to have sex on their period so I’d say go for it as long as H is on board. I used to always tell H about my periods when I had them. But the conversations would be more of a one way thing so they would go like this: “I’m just letting you know Not to piss me off for the next 7 days. The gates are opened and there is a river flowing”
He would just look at me and walk away. |

Some of the best sex I have had was while on my period. Luckily for me my first husband was fine about it.
I had my hysterectomy prior to meeting him so it never was a issue. I honestly thing in this day and age people need to just get over it. It’s not something that needs to be hidden and some women feel shame about it , that’s so sad. My daughter is vocal about being a woman and having her period. When she’s suffering a horrible period which most all of hers are sadly enough, when co workers see her rice filled microwave heated teddy bear in her lap it’s obvious. A few dumb guys have tried to tease her about it and she will bluntly tell them she bleeds monthly and it freaking hurts and they should not waste time being concerned about her uterus and they are more than welcome to go buy her a box of tampons for acting stupid. I raised my daughter to speak her mind lol __________________ Helping others gets me out of my own head ~ |

I've always viewed a woman's period as a time for her body to cleanse itself and to do so in a kind of solitude. The cervix is somewhat open during a period, too, so the vagina might be more inclined to irritations and/or infections. So, nah...sex during my period isn't something I feel healthy about.

my sex drive is higher during a period. but humans definitely are still caught up in the taboo that they are bad/shameful/need to be hidden. its a fact of life that all women experience from puberty to menopause and everybody should be somewhat educated and the eww reaction should be dead by now. seriously. the vagina is self cleaning if everything is normal down there and sex during a period is no different. i dont think a period opens you up to any chances of infections or issues.

i would like to get men's opinions but this is in the women's forum? Should I repost this somewhere to ask their perspectives?

Sex, like cardio, increases circulation (but in a more targeted way - specifically in the pelvic region) and thus eases period cramps. It is very good for you to have sex on your period.

When I was in my twenties I had a boyfriend who liked to have sex during that time. I thought it a bad idea and messy. It was one of the things that led to our
breakup. |
