Goop's pseudoscience ministry comes to Netflix - STAT
Netflix and Gwyneth Paltrow'''s '''Goop Lab''' docuseries is all kinds of awful
Goop Lab on Netflix shows how easy it is to fall for bad science | New Scientist
Dr. Jen Gunter Wants to Protect Your Vagina From Gwyneth Paltrow – Mother Jones
I cant stand Goop or Gwyneth Paltrow. She sells overpriced, unaffordable pseudoscience products to the masses with no scientific evidence and even dangerous advice. Remember Vaginal steaming? She recently had a retreat planned where women paid between 5000-10000$ to participate. It was a giant goop ad, and paltrow made one measly appearance and then hid away in her special celeb quarters. Many women went online and complained. The media is to blame as well for cosigning this BS. Touting unproven ridiculous products and "cures" to women who mostly cant afford them and are desperate to believe a celeb they feel is "honest" Read about Jen Gunter goop's enemy #1. I am disappointed that Netflix allowed a docuseries on her nonsense but I plan to watch for laughs and to spread info about what BS looks like.

There must be plenty of women actually buying her products or she wouldn’t be marketing them. I’m so out of touch, I haven’t even seen her ads. I’m so simple with beauty products. I’m into just using coconut oil and other oils on my face and body. My hair stylist did give me an amazing shampoo that is the first thing that actually works to make my hair not be frizzy. Otherwise, I do very little with products. Gwyneth can keep her goop and steam her own vagina, lol.

@sarahsweets - how infuriating! I'm still not sure whether Gwyneth believes the rubbish GOOP sells works, or if she's genuinely an unethical charlatan, but I'm leaning towards the latter. The last thing she needs is a larger platform than she already commands! Good idea, spreading the word & raising awareness about GOOP's dangerous brand of expensive pseudoscience.

Apparently Netflix is pretty well-known for giving a platform to pseudoscience & quackery: Think Goop is bad? It'''s only the tip of Netflix'''s pseudoscience iceberg | WIRED UK.

There's a petition calling on Netflix to stop airing it, here, if anyone's interested in signing it: Petition * Remove Gwyneth Paltrow‘s Goop from Netflix. Pseudoscience shall have no place on Netflix. * Change.org.

@TishaBuv: Lucky you! Stephen Colbert has a bunch of YouTube videos that satirise GOOP's pseudoscience hilariously, if you want to check it out without risking exposure to the snake-oil they sell directly. Dr Jen Gunter's blog is another great way to find out exactly how ludicrous, ill-informed, & dangerous GOOP is, so you can help spread the word to other women, without giving Gwyneth your attention directly: Dr. Jen Gunter.

Speaking of Dr Jen, she's apparently got a TV show now, too! It's airing on CBC Gem, & doesn't seem to be available online anywhere I could find yet, but you can view the promo for it, here: YouTube.

There is an article about it in last issue of New Yorker. I opened it after reading this thread, funny coincidence. Article refers to it as “magical thinking”. Crazy stuff

I do like Gwenyth Paltrow. By that, I mean I enjoy her acting. Besides that, I don't know the first thing about her as a person. In general, the circles in which she travels have shiteloads of $$$$$ to spend on all manner of alternative health treatments. I won't lie; I wish I had such money to blow...or use for "treatments" or whatever anybody wants to call them.

And, you never know. I remember even 20 years ago when mindful meditation was still considered hippie weirdo stuff. Now mindfulness meditation is believed to be the answer to every issue anyone can come up with. I see health foods priced to the sky in grocery stores, foods that were for "weirdos" to eat some years ago.

I could go on with various examples, but I'll just say that I'm old enough to have seen the so-called "bizarre" become the pricey "norm."

This thread is the best. GP is a good actress but her GOOP lifestyle brand is *rolls eyes*. I watched her Netflix show and learned that this is what the upper class do with their time and money.

When GP's team went to Jamaica to do mushrooms together, I was hoping for some real breakthrough stories from her staff. Nope. They just giggled and made inside-joke references to each other.

Remember that kerfuffle about that jade egg? Selling a jade egg and telling women that if you put an egg shaped stone -- a STONE!! -- inside your vagina, it will make you more fertile. Um, no. It will give you toxic shock syndrome and stretch out your cervix.

All that affluence and this is how they spend their time.

Did you hear that a $23,000 handbag was stolen from one of GP's Goop brick and mortar stores?

*rolls eyes* I love Stephen Colbert's mocking of her crap. Those people are so outa touch with nature. Ha ha the stuff they claim! A dozen years from now they'll probably apply for religious tax free shelter like Scientology did.

Watch this interview with GP and see how disconnected she is from reality. She doesn't care about what her "team" pushes to the elite of society. A $200,000 lawsuit? Pennies for Paltrow. Her ex-hubie of Coldplay makes a gazillion dollars a year.

And this "earthing" ********. You walk on grass and dirt barefoot. Like you used to do as a kid. There's no magnetic healing. It's just a relaxing habit. For f---- sake.

YouTube

A stone in your vagina does not balance your hormones or "tone" your pelvic floor. *rolls eyes*

Oh, and bad press for her GOOP Summit. Basically, it was GP's chance to charge attendees thousands of dollars to hear her staff pander products a la live demonstrations of GOOP's purported brand.

During one of her GOOP summits, one of her nutritionists claimed that you can cure thyroid disease with nutrition. You can't. I've had thyroid disease for nearly 30 years and I eat really well and my TSH levels still fluctuate. It's a hormone. Nutrition cannot balance hormones. If that were true, no one would ever be on medication.

Exasperated attendees give up on Gwyneth’s Goop summit

I thought GP was outstanding in the movie Sylvia.

I dunno...there are a ton of products and such just like the stuff she's advocating as helpful. As for walking barefoot, well, that's nothing new (and she laughs about it herself in the video). I love walking barefoot in grass and it does make me feel connected to nature. Magnetic or not, I don't know.

What I wish is that someone would make these concepts more affordable so we could all try them out, if we wanted to. I would want to give some of her stuff a try...but then, I'm a Californian
