I am not coping well. Not at all. I hate my job right now. I have to write 8 long reports every single month, and it takes a full week to write them. This will be day five of report writing. I have one more report to do, it's the hardest one, and I don't know how to cope.

I want to call in sick tomorrow SO badly. I have to be on a client call today, so I cannot call in sick today. I feel sick -- sick with stress and sick of this job. Sick of report writing. I cannot do this anymore. Six days straight of writing reports??? Are you freaking kidding me?????

I am SO burnt out. I am not going to last more than a year in this job. I've only been there four months and I am already burnt out and way too stressed. This job is far too challenging for me... I feel like I'm about to have a full on meltdown.

Just looking for support around this -- thank you.

Maybe this isn't the job for you? If you can't find/make anything redeeming about the nature of the work you are doing, then you might consider starting to looking for something else ... something that feels more right for your personality/skill set. There are probably people out there who enjoy report writing. Evidently you aren't one of them and I wouldn't be, either.

I hope you find a work situation you enjoy, not one to just be endured. (((Hugs)))

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I believe you are probably right. But I cannot leave this job until I've been there a year at least. I need the length on my resume. Unfortunately, I have no choice but to endure it and suffer through.

I just took a lorazapam by suggestion from my fiance. Hopefully that can help me get through at least today.

Don't you worry g_e. You'll get through each and every day in one piece, come what may, which is your plan. You'll succeed in your goal of twelve months, I believe in you!

Conjure up a very inspirational figure in history as well, and channel or contemplate their spirit and character strengths. It may help you. I do something like that, sometimes.

((((golden_eve)))) I'm sorry you're struggling so much. Try to hang on a little longer... perhaps you can start looking for other job opportunities.

Sometimes setting short term goals is beneficial. And rewarding yourself. Like if you do this one report, you buy yourself ice cream or something like that.

In a long run not every job is for everyone. There are many jobs that I wouldn’t want to do for any kind of money and there are many people who’d not do what I do for any money in the world. And sometimes one doesn’t know it until they try. You tried. So after a year you move on on something more suitable but until then just focus on small goals and positives: salary and health benefits etc. you can do it!!!

Thanks, Divine! That's a good idea about setting small or short term goals.

This is very very very hard, is all I can say right now.

Each day I tell myself, OK, I am making X amount of dollars today for this hard work. Then I remind myself that I can afford what I need to right now. I have to go through this exercise every morning thinking of any positives: I like my boss, I like the CEO and I like my teammates. In my old job, I hated my boss, but I never had to talk to her or see her in person.

I do miss working from home very much. The next job I get will be work from home again, I do believe.

Just eight more months to get through... roughly. I can do this, I think. At least until reporting time again next month.

It's my last day of reports today. Then client meetings. Grrrr.

You can get through it. If you can leave after 1 year of employment there then it won’t be too much longer until you start your actual job hunt. Just keep plugging along and keep in the back of your mind that it’s a means to an end. It’s a stepping stone job into something else. If you keep those things in the back of your mind maybe it will make each day go a little smoother.

Yes, knowing there is an end in sight and having short-term goals and rewards are excellent ways to get through the year. You could start looking for something before you leave this job, though, maybe a month or two. If someone really wants you, most likely they'll wait until you are available.

Kudos to you for seeing that you need to keep this job for a while for the good of your resume and being willing to do so. Personal disclosure here: I had an overall good career and retired on good terms but years ago I walked off a job because of stress and I never felt good about that, it haunted me for quite a while. That particular position wasn't right for me but I wasn't listening to my gut and kept pushing on until I couldn't any longer. Looking back, if I had had a plan to look for something else, it would have turned out better. Just musing ...

Best wishes to you. (((Hugs)))

Thank you both!!!

Yes, I can make it through eight more months ( I think!!). That's eight more reporting weeks to get through, which feels like a LOT, but I am hoping it gets easier with time (which I actually doubt).

And yes, starting to think about what's next will help, especially if I start to work towards that goal, perhaps by taking a course in editing or something along the lines of what I might want to do next.

At least reporting week is almost over, and I can breathe again soon. It's the weekend tomorrow, so literally just eight more hours of reports to survive.

Thank you!
