Ruby this is not a social club and your manager doesn’t need to spend any time talking to you if job task doesn’t require that. Just focus on your job

He had talked to me somewhat less. I was so worried about my job that I harped on that as a distraction. And I neglected to mention that he already forgave me that SAME day he found the shortage.

I did get called in today. While working, I asked him how many days he has me on next week's schedule (not come out yet). He said prolly 3-4. I still have the job but I won't be handling cash for awhile. I actually asked not to handle cash. He said they'll train me in kitchen sometimes.

how many times has anyone here gotten their food order & tucked the change into the bag or pocket & just drove away? the guy may not have even looked at the change at all until he opened up the food. seriously, the issue here is NOT the customer. also it is NOT if he is required to return the $$. it would have been nice if he returned the cash...but he didn't or not that we know of..perhaps he stopped in at a later time, we just don't know.

i disagree.the issue is partly the customer if he was aware. if he was decent he would have done so and that would have a bearing.

anyone who would not see that amount of money should not be out alone. He would be required to return it in the UK possibly the USA

if he stopped in he did not return the cash

I find it very difficult to believe a person would not notice that. The meal was about 9 dollar i think? So in stead of getting back approx 91 he got approx 191. Even getting the 100 dollar bill alone would be noticed. You could not hand in 100 dollar bill and expect to get it back with several other bills

Also, what bothers me is he treated me different than everyone else. He was much nicer to other ppl than he was to me. It was an honest mistake. He even said mistakes happen. So why couldn't he treat me like everyone else?
Do you feel like you are being discriminated against?

there is a difference between stealing money and handing out money to a customer...again it would be great if the guy returned it but he didn't
say what you want, he is not the issue in this incident...if he was given $5 or $100. he did not ask for it it was an employee mistake. who knows their state laws about returning overages from stores? I don't. I would return cash but that is who I am. again, this customer may have just grabbed the cash & recei.pt & stuffed them into the bag, he may have been picking up lunch for someone else & they got the bag & change, or he knew & didn't care & thought bonus. we don't know. not the issue. did he have kids in the car? a dog? distractions.

ruby he talked with you, what more do you want from him? you made a large cash error...he isn't going to say you are the best employee in the place..accident or not. what exactly do you think you deserve or need?

not trying to be harsh but it he spoke with you already...

True story

While making a trip to Florida last year my husband and I always do drive thu because our dogs travel with.

Anyway we got off exit # who knows after driving for the first 7 hours. We paid and drive off back on the interstate.

We just started eating our food , finished up and I was cleaning the wrappers napkins etc and we were given 40.00 more change than we should have.

So there was no way for me to back track 20-30 miles of interstate looking for the correct fast food place at the unknown exit#

I figured someone would get into trouble and yeah I felt bad but it’s only takes seconds to recount paper money.

Ruby, regardless of what happens when ever you are dealing with money just take those literal few seconds to recount.

Hope this all gets out and in your past quickly and you can continue to do your job well.

I usually just grab the change & receipt & stuff them into my pocket & never look at it...I should in case it is short, but I don't. so I wouldn't notice the extra $$. the only times I stop at mcdonalds is if I am on my break from work & then time is of the essence and I just want to get food & get back to work so I can eat quickly, or if I am travelling and then I have a drooling dog trying to get to what ever I just bought so then I really just grab the change & stuff it somewhere so I can then find a safe place for the food :-) ….so yea I never look at the change...even from the grocery store sometimes I wrap the receipt around the change & tuck it in my pocket. sometimes i'll have like 3 receipts in there.

i'm one of those people

I had a teacher in high school who said she was given an extra $20 when she was checking out at Nordstroms at Christmas time and her exact words were “I took the money and ran”

I accidentally came out about 30 short once in a grocery store in the 90's. It was the quick change people. So, I educated myself in what and how they did it. They tried me again a few days later. My drawer was almost 60 ahead that night and they had the people that ripped me off the day before at the service desk because the idiots went to complain. I gave a note to another cashier as soon as they left my register to call management and tell them. Management called cops and they picked them up.

curious as howyou would be 60 ahead.

Someone once gave me too much.i realised and called him back and returned it

I worked out what happened and i tried it in a shop to see if it would work. it did and i got too much change. i gave it back as i was only interested to see if it would work

To keep it would be a low life thing to do

trying to be rude to you on purpose? no. not at all. honestly I barely pay any consequence to your posts to really don't flatter yourself. as for "liking" you I don't know other then seeing you as someone who posts to forums. I notice you complain much about your work situation and that's about it.

if you read where I posted it was someone else who posted "what a horrible person" and that is what I responded to. I find the whole conversation about how disgusting the person was who got the extra money fairly interesting since it was NOT the point of the original poster and I wonder just how really righteous everyone is in real life. it is easy to be so on an anonymous post..not so in real life when someone hands you free cash or product. what if you got handed an extra sandwich? would you return that? drive away and circle back?

so no, don't flattern yourselfn that I spend time figuring out things to flame you. doesn't happen. I don't really care enough.

Once while working retail I didn't give a customer enough change. Now that made the customer mad. He paid with a $50 and I realized it later that I had thought it was a $20. These mistakes are easy to make.

Plus, seriously--who pays with an $100 at a fast-food restaurant? What does a burger cost--like 5 dollars maximum? Even if your order was a high total, like in the twenty or thirty range, I feel like this customer was extremely inconsiderate by paying with that large of a bill. Management should understand that. I know you have to do things the right way at fast-food joints--I worked at one. However, there's a certain line you have to draw.

I don't care who you are, but that's not a good practice. It's unfair to the employees.

I know this may not be a popular opinion, but I think the customer is more at fault than you. And management might be at fault as well. There are some laws in place also that don't even allow customers to even pay with $50 or $100 bills (at CERTAIN retail stores). So to take it out of your paycheck would be extremely wrong in my opinion. I'm not a lawyer, but that makes my blood boil.

I understand you've had problems with your employer in the past. Just remember that you're doing a good job in trying to help yourself and rectify these problems.

If management talks to you about it again, just stay level-headed and calm about it, but apologize. Say you're sorry and that it won't happen again. I understand that you need to keep this job. So be serious and try to correct your error. And then don't let it happen again. It's as simple as that.

I just feel mad when management is taking it out on you. That does not mean you can get mad at management though, just to be clear. But show them through your actions that you're responsible and up to the task.

Discriminated for what? I still have this job. My only consequence is paying back the $91 and not handle cash on drive thru anymore. I'm still allowed to cash out on front counter where it's less stressful lol.
