Hey everyone. I know this person who is looking to change jobs. We'll call him "SWIM" (short for Someone Who Isn't Me).

After being in the food service industry almost 2 full decades, SWIM I has been working part time as a car detailer while doing school on-line full-time. SWIM starts his vacation tomorrow, and during that time, he wants to update his resume and start looking for another job. SWIM hates having to do it, yet again, but it's too far and they can't seem to accommodate him for school. They finally dropped SWIM down to 4 days a week, after they promised months earlier, but he's now working every second Saturday, which he is not happy about. SWIM was also late for classes and tests last semester because of having to stay late, when they knew full well that he had classes. The other side for SWIM is having to look for YET ANOTHER job. But, SWIM also feels he has to do what he thinks is best and to go with his gut, although it's been wrong quite a few times. SWIM is tired of not finding the right fit. It also doesn't look too good on a resume having so many places that didn't work out.

Overall, SWIM feels like he's caught between a rock and a hard place, and isn't sure what to do. SWIM is scared of making a mistake or ending up somewhere worse.

Does his school have a career / job placement department or such? There are "tests" to assess interests and abilities. What does he like doing? What is he good at?

I don't think there is any career advice I can offer SWIM. But I thought I would just mention there is a publishing company that offers publications on effective job search techniques & related subjects. Here's a link to some of their offerings:

Job Search - Career Development - Browse Products | Paradigm Education Solutions Store

SWIM is just looking for something that's 15-20 hours a week and can accommodate him for school.
